No Booty today, but Sol starts, presumably playing as a winger with Jack and James up front. Not sure why the latter, but there you go. Wonder how we will play without Booty's long passes?

At the risk of continuing what is becoming a personal thread, here goes... The new Northern Ireland Brexit deal? Is it really the case that the latest idea is to have a Green Lane for stuff just going to Ulster and a Red Lane for anything going on to the Republic? Well f**k me senseless, how has it taken umpteen years to come up with that bright idea??? It has to be more complex than that - the DUP don't do simple - but you just have to wonder. Indeed, it amazes me that there is so much hatred between countries/communities, years after things are supposed to have been solved. UN forces are needed still in Kosovo and Cyprus, because if they left, the locals would immediately be at each others' throats. Clad the Vunt is no doubt happy to keep everyone guessing what he will do next - though if he was really so worried about the West invading, maybe he could ask for a UN peace keeping force on the Ukraine border? Too simple? You bet, the little shit can't fight one army, let alone two, but maybe China and Russia v the world is what he is hoping for? There again, merely posting this in Russia, China, or indeed Turkey would get me thrown in jail, so maybe things are quite so bad here...

In my student days, back in the 70s, the Union bar sold Newkie pint bottles for 15p. Better still McEwan's Export was 14p a pint, so if your mates were serving then an almost full glass of McEwen's with a Newkie Brown on the side was 22p - not bad for nearly two pints. You could get rat arsed for well under a quid! These were the days before Camra became a force and Young's was the only real ale in south London - often a knife and fork job at the time anyway. The Rat Pit (public bar) at the Pied Bull in Streatham was the only place it was decent. Happy days!

End of the season works for me and then decide. George should be allowed to work without looking over his shoulder and wondering if he will have a job in the morning. The players need to know that too. The owners are not doing him any favours hanging him by a thread when we all know the season finished ages ago.

Also in the KM, Roarie Deacon says he is convinced we will stay up. Wish I shared your optimism, Roarie, but happy to be proved wrong - starting with our next two games!

Does Draught Bass still exist in any shape or form? Occasionally see bottled equivalent in Asda, but not on tap. Shame as it would match many of these fancy craft ales - or maybe that's just a fond memory?

The Heed are not bothered by long away trips it seems, being third in the form table for their last six, behind only Notts and Wrexham. They stuffed us 4-1 up there of course in what was probably our rude awakening after a fairly decent start to the season. Indeed, looking back, the only months where we have won league games appear to be August and November, our last two being Wealdstone at home and Scunthorpe away. So, hard to expect anything while the eternal spring of hope seems to have run dry. There again, Gateshead lost 1-0 at Southend on Saturday and we showed good ambition on Tuesday. Unlikely to be many away fans inhabiting the Elvis End, though don't suppose there will be that many of our lot either. Who knows?

Crumbs of comfort away from the Gallagher. Like Liverpool getting stuffed 5-2 by Real Madrid. When he's 45, perhaps Luka Modrich would like to play for us, for free. Could still do well..

Barham never gives less than 100% and has both pace and skill. He and Booty may attract offers and both could prosper with the right players around them, though not sure the big clubs will be interested as they will look to the FL to boost their squads. They deserve a chance though and will probably be wondering what might have been this season had we invested properly.

Credit where it is due - the players kept going to the end and on another day we might have won easily. Highlights give a slightly false impression because essentially the first ten minutes or so we're good then Eastleigh gradually took over though 0-0 at half time would have been a fairer reflection, but we have the first of our obligatory gifts. Barden or defenders? Whatever... Second half we had that purple patch. Could have scored three and maybe had up to three penalties, but then as daveu says, they cleverly/synically stopped the game and it sucked the life out of us. The ultimate route one goal (long punt, one touch, smash) gave them an undeserved lead, which we then kindly doubled, yet we still might have salvaged a draw. Oh well... George's latest post match interview strongly suggests he has no hopes of surviving the drop, but is trying his best to keep the players' heads up - probably all he can do in the circumstances. However, Alabi has had two goes now and needs to be moved on, with Barham going back to centre forward and Sol playing on the left wing from the start. We had a go last night, so let's see more of that to the end of the season and maybe, just maybe, piss on a few parades.
