It seemed ok at the time, especially when the alternatives were Watneys Red Barrel or lager. The former only 10p a pint, but few would touch it - a bit like the fag machine, where Player's Number Ten were always the last to run out. Apparently, you had to be really desperate to buy these, though they only worked out at a penny each. My college had a big drama department and one of their favourite activities used to be a lift scene, where you had to act out "who has farted". Maybe the McEwan's started it all! I actually did some bar work in the Pied Bull. It was an early Camera pub of the year. Catered for everyone, including the Krays at one time. The Rat Pit, or public bar, still had saw dust on the floor! One of our regulars was a guy who was on call to fix any overnight traffic light problems. He would prop up the bar all evening until pretty much incapable of standing. We often used to wonder what would happen if he got a call out.

Does your wife watch the news/read the papers etc - or is Russian TV less biased than BBC/ITV etc? Loyalty to the Motherland is one thing, but really??

Likewise. Best not to read the leaflets. Remember going to Sri Lanka a few years ago, which required multiple jabs. Among the possible side effects for these were blindness, stopping breathing and death. Not sure where the demarcation line is between the last two, but hey. And we had a fantastic holiday. So get the eyes done, read better, fleece the bookies even more and watch the black and amber is startling clarity.

Slow death in the gulags, with a bit of torture thrown in beforehand, or quick suicide? Hmmm....

Pratt's Bottom and Badger's Mount are two more local ones, while Fawkham comes close. Grew up in Newark and never made the connection! No wonder I wear glasses...

If Typhoo put the Tea in Britain, who put the... Not many places in Britain with a rude word in them, but Scunthorpe certainly comes out top. Not top in much else, though they did beat D&R a week ago, who won at Notts County on Saturday. They also won at Halifax and beat Maidenhead in January. One of the (very) few sides we have beaten this season, so maybe we have a chance? Will Booty be back? Hopefully. Suggestion that Sol's injury wasn't too serious, but whether George will risk him is another matter. Likewise JB-W. Which leaves us a bit short you'd think. Rafe Brown did well on Saturday, so let's hope there is no reaction for him, but please, no Alabi. Walters looked quicker and more mobile, though, like Marshall, doesn't offer height. If James plays and scores, nobody will be more pleased than me, be right now Hadler or Mersin would be a better bet up front - or simply go back to Jack on his own. We know we are going down, but a win would be a nice boost for the players and coaches, especially with that FAT game coming up soon .

They could put a piece in the KM, all manner of options, but I'm sure I won't be the only one who feels there shouldn't be a need to buy a programme just to find out what is going on. There are many more fans than just the season tickets holders and, for me anyway, they have a duty to keep us all informed.

Good article, honest and open. My only quibble is why did it take until 21st of this month to happen? Owners and Bill are too slow in communicating and with the power of the internet, this could/should be a monthly thing at least. There again, maybe I should buy a programme! Equally, what is wrong with putting this sort of thing on the website, though ultimately this is still be the weak link in everything. Anyway, thanks for the update Bill and keep them coming. Keeping supporters informed is the best way to keep us happy.

Highlights show that Gateshead were hopeless in front of goal today. Not as hopeless as Alabi though, who missed two absolute sitters, gave the ball away repeatedly and just gets knocked off the ball far too easily. I like James for his effort, but he is so far out of his depth it is embarrassing. Please George, do not play him on Tuesday!

Just after the kick off, I tried to do a head count. Just over 50 Heed supporters - apparently there were 62 About 200 in the Town End About 200 along the Riverside About 150 in front of the main stand. About 300 in the Elvis End About the same in the main stand.
So around 1200 to 1400, but certainly not 2000. Did 600 season ticket holders stay at home? Do we have that many?

Not the worst game and we made a good fight of it. Shame about the ref and the hopeless Riverside linesman - on another day we might have had two more goals but for them. Great to see Rafe back, but not at the expense of JB-W getting injured. He looked good though. Bone put a huge shift in and Sol looked good - even better when he finally went centre forward instead of Alabi, so shame he went off as well. It wasn't difficult for Marshall and Walters to do far more than Alabi in a quarter of the time. Why George keeps playing him, I have no idea. He has no place in this league or the one below. Spent the second half near our 'dugout' and saw far more involvement than in Hak's time. The attendance was wildly optimistic at over 2000, but we know why. 14-1500 would be more accurate, but if we keep playing like this then maybe a few more will come back.

Could be three nil up, could be 3-0 down, especially if their shooting was as good as pre-match. Jack so unlucky following up a shot off the bar, then an own goal, then a couple of other chances and penalty shouts. However the officials are giving us sod all and it is feeling like another one of those days. Quite why Alabi is still on the pitch, I have no idea. He contributes nothing. We'd be better off having Mersin at centre forward. At least he is tall and strong enough.
