I'm surprised there is no thread for this already...
Excellent clarification of the situation in which the Club currently finds itself.

I thought it was a great blog. I can’t understand why the owners get so much grief. It’s ridiculous. They only want the best for the club.

Good article, honest and open. My only quibble is why did it take until 21st of this month to happen? Owners and Bill are too slow in communicating and with the power of the internet, this could/should be a monthly thing at least. There again, maybe I should buy a programme! Equally, what is wrong with putting this sort of thing on the website, though ultimately this is still be the weak link in everything. Anyway, thanks for the update Bill and keep them coming. Keeping supporters informed is the best way to keep us happy.

You don't understand butler ?
I think the most likely explanation by far for the nonsense they come out with is because they are idiots.
Argue the toss as much as you like but it always comes back to the same thing.

Words words words, as Hamlet would say.
We can talk about it endlessly on social media and director’s blogs. Nothing is going to make this season great, except maybe a very unlikely Wembley final.
Saw George placating a disgruntled youth after the match with talk of positivity. That’s the way forward.

Unless you want to do away with printed media altogether some content has to be reserved for it, otherwise they need to start charging for online access to some articles.

They could put a piece in the KM, all manner of options, but I'm sure I won't be the only one who feels there shouldn't be a need to buy a programme just to find out what is going on. There are many more fans than just the season tickets holders and, for me anyway, they have a duty to keep us all informed.

Saw George placating a disgruntled youth after the match with talk of positivity. That’s the way forward. I thought George handled it beautifully. He was being given some stick by the lad and George went over to him. Having seen Angry George last year taking on an away supporter I feared for the worse. George gave his big smile and very politely informed the young man that the team were trying their best and wanted to win. He said there was no lack of commitment and invited the young man to join them a training on Monday. I was not sure of Georges motives: 1 Was it to impress him? 2 Was it because we are so short of players he might be useful? 3 Was it an opportunity for the team to kick the shit out of him?

How many actually buy a programme though? I only tend to buy them on special occasions - of which there haven't been any this season (although our home game with Notts County might count, as they were the first away team I saw at UP).
We have to face it that printed media (except maybe books and magazines) has had its day. Things change constantly - at nearly 70, almost nothing is the same as it was in my youth - but when something as disruptive as the internet or smart phones comes along, that change happens in years, rather than decades. DVD or CD anyone?
As for the club and communications - they are pretty good, when they get round to it (when was the last blog post from Oliver?). What they need to improve on is the timeliness and getting it to all fans, not just those who happen to come across it in a programme or on the KM site. If it wasn't for this forum and the occasional accident, I would miss just about all the club communications.

Sounds like you're saying we should just accept the inevitable and abandon printed media altogether. Personally I want to keep it, but to do that there needs to be some incentive, and what better than something you can't get free online.

Actually when something is inevitable, sooner or later its best to accept it. I appreciate its harder for the older generation but this is 2023 for God's sake. Nostalgia is not a blueprint for the future. Time to move on.

How many actually buy a programme though? The last one I bought was our first game back in Maidstone. They just seem a waste of money, any important or interesting news is posted on Kent online, twitter or the official website.

And, to be brutally honest, it’s not very good.
£3 may not be much, but when you’re on a family budget you think twice about match day expenses.
I’ll be sad to see them go, just like when hard cash disappears in a few years, and CDS, and DVDs, and cassette tapes, and vinyl, and VHS, and buses, and doctor appointments, and gas boilers.
Any others?

Whatever we might think about printed media - personally, I have a nostalgic love for newspapers, but haven't actually bought one for years - it's only viable when enough people are still buying it. I suspect we have already passed that point for most newspapers, they are just hanging on because their identity is tied up in the printed edition, and they're probably worried that if they are the first to stop printing they'll somehow lose readers/influence/etc. But, sooner or later, it will happen - one of the broadsheets will finally admit that the printed version is just too expensive, and then the others will follow. (And I know the 'i' is already online only, but I'm talking about papers that actually matter!)
As for programmes - much the same argument applies, except the costs/losses are much less. But let's try a little thought experiment - imagine that the club stops producing them for financial reasons, how many people would really care? And, of those who do want them, how many would be prepared to put their own time and money into producing one and then selling it at each home game? There's a good reason why we no longer have fanzines.

I still have all of them being a bit of a luddite and technophobe but cash will never disappear, many times I've walked past shops with signs saying shut or cash only because the Internet or WiFi thingy has gone down, others been a power cut.
