Ooops ! snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by shocking defending at key moments Jay Saunders been saying it all season but the recent change of personnel has not stopped defenders making errors and poor decisions our midfield were better than Tranmere's and we looked comfortable as a team for most of the match and yet, players that look very decent defenders for 85 minutes, still find it in their lockers to gift goals poor worgs had a pretty easy afternoon, just had to stretch himself 3 times to collect the ball from the back of the net in fairness, he cannot be faulted for any. Paxman also my pick for MoM Unfortunately, even when we are playing well we can't win. That's not an accident, it's because we are chokers. We go into panic mode at the prospect of getting something out of the game. I never felt we would end up with the 3 points, though I was desparately hoping for 1.

So after the misery of today, we are now just one game away from equalling the old Maidstone United club record winless run. I'm also wondering what the National League games without a win record is.

Or maybe we could just record our own official Maidstone United anthem. Mayhap get the players in to record a song commemorating their appearance in the Kent Senior Cup Final, a sort of lower league 'Spurs are on their way to Wembley' type vibe. NO NO NO! past evidence of all football players in recording studios show that nothing good ever comes of it. What.....not even the John Barnes World in Motion rap?

The Rolling Stones "(I can't get no) Satisfaction" is well suited to our current playing style, with the added relevance of a reference to being on a losing streak in the lyrics at the end. Aaah, gallows humour, something to be said for it in rough times

I can't help thinking all these attempts to rationalise how many points other teams will get is all just so much hopeless guesswork at the end of the day. Though i'll stick with my perception that teams in or near the bottom four tend to get more points in the last few games of the season as they become ever more desperate and they play teams who haven't got much left to play for.
All I know at the moment is that we are sinking like.....erm, Stones.

Send In The Clowns would be more apt. Being a fan of a lot of early 90's alt-rock myself, perhaps 'Loser' by Beck. Even more apt!

That requires us to average a point a game and I really can't see us turning things around to that extent. As a work of fiction I would put it up there with Lord of the Rings and the Bible.

Looks like Sutton are moving for Michael Cheek from Dagenham in the big sale, might mean we have a chance of getting him on a permanent basis. Do we want to? I was going to post the exact same words having watched his performance yesterday.

Just shows how utterly ridiculous the EFL and NL are going to look if Sutton or Bromley go up and don't replace their pitches. As Doswell says - if the play-off final was to be between Sutton and Bromley, the winner would effectively be facing playing in the NS next season. Utter madness. If either side is still in the play-offs in a few weeks, the EFL/NL are going to start shitting themselves. Standby for a total climb-down - only thinly disguised as a "reasonable decision that we would have come to anyway". Nothing that has been said recently suggests a climb-down. Both the EFL and NL must have been aware for a long time now that there is a good chance of Sutton being in the play-offs, yet this article contains relatively recent quotes from the Chief Executives of both that suggest no weakening of their stance: www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/sutton-united-boss-fumes-over-14249284In particular: "EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey said in December that the potential use of ‘synthetic or artificial grass surfaces’ would be discussed as part of an ongoing review of stadium criteria. But he noted that any rule change would need the backing of the majority of EFL clubs at the league’s AGM in June and would not come into force until the 2019-20 season." Whilst the comments from National League chief executive Michael Tattersall, speaking to Press Association Sport last month were: “If we don’t send the EFL two eligible clubs they will reprieve the 91st club and we will have undermined our raison d’etre. I don’t want to relegate a club on this basis - nobody wants to do that. But the irrevocable undertaking was not a work of fiction. You have to mean it and if you fail to live up to it we’re not just going to tickle your tummy. It sounds draconian but it’s necessary. Should we hold a play-off final if one team isn’t going to accept promotion? (The relegation rule) is the least bad solution.” It may not seem like common sense to actively try to destroy sustainable business models and community facilities, but when I think of the way football is run in this country, I seldom think of common sense prevailing.

Penalty! Gateshead sub keeper on. Saved. When will our luck change??? When we start getting the basics right, such as converting penalties.

This run we are on is getting desperate now. Couple of wins and we will turn the corner, a couple of new faces that are going to better us will help. Still got a cushion of points but if we dont sort it soon. That gap will be getting a lot smaller. We are not safe till we've hit 50+ points. Coys!!! I can't see the safe point being anything like as high as 50+ this season. If you look at the history and form of the bottom four, they have all been in the relegation zone all season (bar a week or two), and extrapolating from their current form, they'll be lucky to be on much more than 40 points by the end of the season. The safe point this season could be as low as 45 - or even less, And, even on our current woeful form, we should be able to reach that! For us to go down would require one of the bottom four to suddenly find incredible form for the last 16 games, AND for all the six teams between us and the relegation zone to get past us. I don't think we should worry about relegation this season - let's concentrate instead on building a squad that will give us a good run next season. Success in any league depends on building for the future, on constructing a successful and relatively unchanging squad, not on constant fire-fighting to avoid relegation. Don't have any stats to back this up, but my perception is that sides at the bottom pick up more points towards the end of the season as the scrap to avoid relegation gets ever more desperate and they start turning over sides who are already assured of a mid-table-ish position or a play off spot and who therefore have a little bit less to play for.
