We saw a guy being wheeled off the pitch in a sort of chair towards the end - didn't look at all well. Pitch 'invasions' like yesterday are all well and good, but only because the Stevenage fans did the decent thing and just filed out quietly. If that had been almost any other senior club, e could have had trouble - then it would have looked very different. And, technically, it's against the rules and if the FA wanted to they could fine the club, or perhaps worse - how would those fans like it if their actions lost us our first ever 4th round? If we want to be taken seriously as a 'big' club, we need to start behaving like one - fans, stewards and officials. It's not just a question of stewarding properly, stopping people climbing over the barrier, etc, the club needs to make it clear from the start that fans on the pitch won't be tolerated - warnings when selling tickets, PA announcements during the game, etc. Lighten up JDL for goodness sake, we are sixth tier, of course there was ALWAYS going to be a pitch invasion if we won, as there was when we last were NLS champions and no-one whinged like crazy about that. It's part of the fun of being a lowly Non-League team, and long may that continue..............we are not NL or EFL yet by a long chalk.

Not so much fun for the bloke who ended up in hospital with 7 broken ribs. And anyway why should the club risk a fine just because it’s fun to run on the pitch.

Just be professional. Just another game.

The 2 guys are recovering 1 from 7 broken ribs and the other was taken to Pembury and suffered 5 broken ribs and a collapsed lung the guy with collapsed lung has been contacted by the club to ask about his health and they are investigating the incident there was a surge from the top of the stand that knocked a few fans to the ground causing quite a few people to land on top of each other

The safety barriers in the rest of the stand would have prevented this from happening. If we had a zero tolerance policy towards pitch invasions there wouldn’t have been crowds congregating on the stairs and pushing to get onto the pitch. As I said in my original post, I don’t want to be a killjoy but when it becomes a safety issue something needs to be done.

As I said in my original post, I don’t want to be a killjoy but when it becomes a safety issue something needs to be done. Please re-read what you are saying Dave. The pitch INVASION wasnt the problem and didnt cause any harm - it was just great fun on a truly historical occasion. The problem was, as you rightly say, congregating on the stairs and a surge from the stupid kids at the top of the Genco, who I avoid like the plague . That would probably have happened anyway, whether people had invaded the pitch or not, as the players ran like Usain Bolt straight to the touchline of that part of the Genco the minute the final whistle blew, as you would expect them too, to celebrate with fans, who then congregated on the stairs to go down to the players on the touchline. I and many others sensibly waited until 1) the coast was clear in the Genco to walk down normally and 2) only when the stewards had opened the gates to the pitch - yes, they let us go on the pitch - for the glorious celebrations. I wasnt going to either congregate, surge, or climb any barriers. My sincere condolences to the people who got hurt, but if they had just waited until the "first wave" had passed, no-one would have needed to get hurt. Sadly, too many babies are thrown out with the bath water these days spoiling it for the vast majority due to a small minority of individuals who lacked wisdom. Tell you what DaveU - as the risk of another pitch invasion if we are at home and win the 4th round tie is probably around 100%, maybe we should play behind closed doors? Or ban the players from celebrating other than a 1920's handshake and a "well done old chap?" I wish those injured all the very best for a speedy recovery, but lets not be killjoys!

They should install those spikes that stop Pigeons sitting on walls and signage. That would stop people standing on the steps.
Not much was going to stop the fans surging. It’s just one of those as Jay would say.

Would that not be during the match. After is completely different as it happens at every single stadium when massive results are achieved.

I’m with Mr U on this. People can’t just do whatever they want in a major ground control situation. Stewards have been ignoring the blocked walkways thing for a while, in both home and away sections. An older person or slightly different crush could have seen a fatality. It was nice they let kids stand at the front edges of the town end, because they get a lousy view with a full capacity. But the behaviour of a few at the opposite end of the ground will mean they can’t do it again. Can’t have drunk people standing in forbidden areas just because they want to. And can’t have idiots running on the pitch towards the away section. Next time someone will jump over the barrier and batter them. Of course, if we get drawn away it won’t matter, but rules will be tightened in future because of the actions of a few who will then cry loudest about strict stewards.

I'm pretty sure we've had games where the club has said no pitch invasion and the fans have behaved. As for lightening up, I'll remind you of that when we do it once too often and the FA decide to make an example of us. We've come pretty close to that once or twice in the past. And a strategy based on the assumption the the FA will be reasonable is pretty much doomed!

Only just seen the highlights, and that bar/post moment looks even scarier close up! But, and it's one hell of a but - when Sweeney rugby tackled Greenidge to the ground, why on earth wasn't that a pen?
It looked like one live, but I only really saw the end of the tackle, so I assumed Sweeney had tripped or something, but now I've seen it in full, he clearly decided to take Greenidge out right from the beginning. How on earth did the lino and the ref miss that?
That aside, the TV coverage was excellent for the club - a full ground and viewed from the river side, just looks so good. It's a pity the normal STV can't be done from that side.

It's a pity the normal STV can't be done from that side. There are plans to erect a new media gantry on the river side. Once that’s done all highlights will have the best view of the ground. Out of interest, did you see the full motd highlights or one of the reduced versions available on the internet. We got about 8 minutes at the start of motd and some decent analysis afterwards.
