As an example, Chelsea vs Preston sold 39,705 tickets. The tickets were prices in Band D which is £32 for adults and £16 for Junior/senior. If 75% of those in attendance were full paying adults, then that generates around 1.1 million pounds. Both teams got a 45% split of that, so Preston got £500,000 for their trip to the capital. Now if we were to get Arsenal instead, their cheapest tickets are around £40 on average and they will get no less that 59,000 people on the day no matter who they play. So when taking into account a guess at 75% are full paying adults the bigger stadium and more expensive tickets generates 2.1 million pounds. So 45% of that would be about £950,000 for Maidstone! So I want Arsenal away!!!!! or Man Utd, as they will get over 70,000 in for any match! Add in the guarantee of a TV game, interest from abroad. Really good shop window for the owners. People wanting to sponsor the team for the game. It'll be massive money. ...so Newport or Eastleigh at home...

Steve Evans post match - Given his reputation I was expecting something completely different. An honest and generous appraisal, understandably from a Stevenage point of view. Thank you for your conduct sir

We weren’t overjoyed getting Barrow or Stevenage, but here we are in the 4th round draw.

So £250,000 in prize money plus various gate receipts. That’s the new pitch and last year’s deficit covered. Anything from this moment is profit towards the new riverside stand? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 dream on. We need a new security hut as the current one has been in place for over a month. No new stand is needed. Our ground is perfectly adequate for the size of the club and its supporter base. Most games have an attendance well below capacity and the few that do not don't justify the expense of a new stand. The reality is we are never going to be a Gillingham or anything close to it. If the ground was bursting at capacity every week, it would be a different story.

On that basis we’d have never expanded the original 2,200 capacity. I’d build a big new town end terrace first, but the riverside would give covered accommodation on all four sides and feel more like a complete football ground. Seeing people standing four deep yesterday reinforces the need to develop. Maybe one day we will have sufficient infrastructure to survive a level above NLS. Won’t happen overnight, but should always be an ambition.

Seems a couple of people suffered crush injuries at the end of the game. According to a post on facebook one ended up in Maidstone hospital with seven broken ribs.
Don’t want to be a killjoy but maybe we need to do more to prevent pitch invasions at the end of games like yesterday. Not only can they be dangerous but might also lead to the club being fined.

How do you prevent it? I walked on. Steward opened the gate for me

Although I think the owners would like to hand it over “football league ready”. If I were to spend money I’d probably do the Riverside and terrace it a bit

Which us what the club has planning permission. A new 4 tier seated stand. Much better viewing and would raise extra match day revenue but not a lot. Not worth the capital cost in vfm terms. But a lucrative pay day in the fa cup could change all that.

I think all things considered we are almost nailed on to be selected for live tv coverage in R4 .... any Premier League or Championship team and i think there’s enough there then for a live televised game.

Stewards not opening gates would be a start then ! Ha. To be more accurate the gates were already open and I walked thru I don’t dispute what you say for a moment but I’m amazed the stewards open the gates, i thought they were supposed to STOP pitch invasions (or at least try to stop them) so why do they do that, or am I missing something ?! I’m sure the club wouldn’t be instructing them to do that ?!

I was behind the goal in the Genco stand, and about 5 minutes before the end of the game the children started gathering in the gangway next to me. The steward in front of us probably knew what was about to happen but frankly, even with the help that started arriving, 200 teenagers (and a few 20-somethings) represent an irresistible force. The gate wasn’t open - it didn’t need to be. When a few half-hearted invaders were brought back off the pitch to the barrier, the gates were opened in order to get them back into the spectator area. Guess what? Yep - more fans poured through the open gates than those who were pushed the other way - there were nowhere near enough stewards or security folks to stop them. They knew that so didn’t try - sensible really. About 10 mins after the whistle, I wandered onto the pitch. A steward approached and asked me to leave so I did - I may have “invaded” but I do have some respect for the poor buggers.
There were indeed three injuries. At least one was someone not really in the invasion force… when a crowd surges that’s almost inevitable - wrong place, wrong time.
All in all, what happened could have been a lot worse. No damage to the ageing pitch or its equipment, just three minor injuries and a lot of very happy children. And at least one parent who thanks his lucky stars that he didn’t have children like that.
