Kudos to their fans, though - 150 away, on a cold Tuesday, and a game they expected to lose. That's a quarter of their home average - it's like us taking 500 to away games last season...

Matches like this won't tempt back any uncommitted supporters. Football pedestrian with not much quality and even less excitement on show. Stones are winning enough games to get to the play-offs but not with style.

We win our game in hand and we go 2nd a good position for when it does all finally fall into place and we start tonking teams. Sounds like it was utterly shit but I'll take that if it delivers another kick to the Parmenter bollocks and unlike some I will luv it,luv it if they keep going down.

Like swordy I have no luv for Dover. Of all the Kent clubs they are the pits in each and every way. As for Parmenter, he is the very worst of football club owners, let him reap what he sows.

Highlights appear to show Dover had just one shot on goal. Also suggest we should have had at least two more goals. However, entertainment is very much at a premium this season. Since moving to the Gallagher, few sides come here wanting to take the game to us - Sutton, Dorking but not many - and this season especially a draw seems the height of their ambitions. Woking were still playing for 0-0 even when we were four up. In addition we have a very defensive minded manager and little in the way of flair players, so I suspect it is never going to be pretty. Set this against last season's horror show of conceding at least two goals every game and it is easy to see where George is coming from. With the amber tinted specs on, Rush just needs a goal to kick start his campaign, Sol is the ultimate naughty boy around the area and Levi the ace goal hanger. So there is the potential for things to gel, but we really need to score early and draw the opposition out because, much as Maidstone are a team without much sparkle, the same can be said for pretty much everyone in our league. At least we aren't playing 6'6 16 stone neanderthals every week.

As already said, a win is a win but it was pretty disappointing stuff.
Dover looked devoid of ideas, while we didn't look that much better. Levi got the goal and should have had one more towards the end. However, it's not clear where other goals are coming from - Rush showed a few touches, as did Sol but given the opposition you would have expected more threat.
By the way, what has happened to Conor Kelly? Injured?

A win’s a win. Yes it was frustrating but we got the job done. Much like us, Dover got themselves into some good areas but just couldn’t find the final ball.
Points to note.
If Levi was half as good outside the 6 yard line as he is in it would would’ve won a lot more comfortably.
Covolan’s distribution was poor last night with at least three clearances going straight into touch.
Dover’s keeper was one of the worst I’ve seen and we should have tried more shots from distance.

Agree with all comments on the forum about how poor the football was last night from both teams was, and how lacking flair or quality or individual star players this Stones team suffers from, and how we are only 5th because most other teams in NLS seem pretty poor too, but yes, Dave, good to win. The football last night was barely Isthmian League standard, and way below what you should expect from full time players. Covolan did make a few bad clearances but overall he is the only player in my view that could play at a higher level regularly and in the first half when it seemed like 90% of the game was in our half it seemed he had more of the ball and made more passes than the whole team put together, which is why it was very disturbing to see Corne and Bone seemingly laying into him at half time. Without Covolan we would sink without trace, so we need to keep him. Dovers goalkeeper was what we would have without Lucas!

Football as we all know is a results business and George is getting results.Yeovil are likely to be over the hill and far away by Xmas unlike Gillingham who are over the hill and not far enough away. We are likely to be playing for 2nd place guaranteeing home play off games though the way this season is going we'll finish 7th and they'll all be away. George is doing what he is paid for and unless there is a clause in his contract saying the football must be exciting you can expect pretty much the same fir the rest of the season or until an EFL club poach him.

Another great victory for the masters.
Despite the naysayers, we are up near the top. Nuff said.

I'm guessing you wern't there.
Came away a bit flat tbh.
Yes 3 points and in the play-offs.
But not a lot of quality in show, not much excitement and not much to enjoy.
Sword says football is a results business and he's right.

Boring for sure, but the team know how to stifle the opposition and grind out results. Winning is everything.

A win is a win is a win.
and Dover has been a bogey team for us.
2007 since our last win against them.
Mind you they are poor these days and a 1-0 win was about right.
The quality of our performances has slipped recently.
George, get on it !

Once again we seem to be blighted by injuries and I have to wonder what percentage of blame the 3G pitch carries. We train on it for 3 days a week and it must take its toll on even the fittest of players and it must be like heaven when we are away on a grass surface.

I get pissed off with all this "winning is all that matters", "football is a points game", etc, etc. Of course, it's true, but it's like saying life is just about staying alive as long as possible.
What's the f**king point??
Anyone who saw us last night knows how dire it was, without Levi's goal hanging, we would never have scored and would have thrown yet another three points away. Against a side so poor that you wonder how they haven't been thrown out of the league under the Trades Description Act. Can we play you every week? I won't be watching if we did.
Winning is NOT everything - not when you know it was crap and you were lucky to win - not when there was almost no football worth watching - not when you know that if they play like that against almost any other side, we're fucked.
We should have destroyed Dover, we all know that - so why settle for just the three points? We were crap. We ARE crap. Anyone who enjoys that needs to see an analyst pretty pronto. We also should have won those three games we drew. Yeovil are already over the hill and far away, but with another six points we'd still be in contention.
Even more so, if we knew how to defend set pieces...
George has recruited some excellent players, we've got one on the best squads in the league. And, after a wobbly start, he had them playing well together and looking like they could only get better. But, for some reason, it's stalled and now the end result is strangely less than the sum of the parts.
And, quite frankly, it isn't worth watching. We need to get the punters through the turnstiles to survive, and we're not going to do that playing like this.
