It's the same with apples. Why do we send our apples abroad and then force people to buy tasteless French ones. Let the French have their golden (un)delicious and leave the cox's in this country for us to enjoy. Simples! So having listened to brexiters banging on about setting our own trade policy and having more global trade here you are banging on about less trade with other countries. I advise you consider variety of products and read about competitive advantage. Oh, and for the record, I love apples but not the cox variety (although to be fair I don't like Golden (un) delicious either I am not sure one post on the subject of apples can be described as " banging on" but I suppose it takes you one post nearer JDL.

I think sword's view of the World is very much about everybody getting back into their geographic and ethnic boxes. He may well be right about a brexit utopia with barriers on work, travel, study, trade, co-operation and the rest. So much to look forward to, so much can change for the better. Happy days and sunny uplands ahead. To paraphrase brexiter language...if he likes closed borders, virtually no immigration and totalitarian governments why doesn't he move to North Korea? No I didnt say that we shouldn't have foreign doctors after all the brits cannot say "do you have pains in your tummy" with the same aplomb of an Indian. I also stated that where health is concerned we should employ whoever wants to work here. I dont advocate sending them all back home I just think it would have been simpler to practise what you are trained in in your own country, countries instead of globetrotting all over the place.

Yea, you got it right sword, all our best British medical staff are looking after pesky foreigners abroad. Something has got to be done about it. Let's blame the EU. Never mind, we've escaped now, sunny uplands here we come. Sword isn't entirely wrong, a lot of them are abroad - although it's more likely to be Australia, America or Canada, than Africa or India. The surgeon who operated on me was third generation Polish - his grandfather had flown with the RAF during the war, but he was unable to return to Poland afterwards (because we totally shafted the Poles). He was about as English as you can get, but because of his obviously Polish surname, he got a fair amount of moron-abuse after the referendum. He was a top surgeon in the UK's leading orthopedic hospital, so he'd had plenty of good offers to go abroad over the years, but he'd always preferred to stay here - he believed in the NHS. But a year of idiots telling him he didn't belong here any more and he should go 'home' was enough, and he took a job in Australia. When I asked him about all this, he said that this wasn't the country he thought he knew any more.

Like a sort of free to come as they please type idea, even if it is short term and they go back and forth. We could call this something...any ideas anyone?

Sadly, the description you provided on the experiences of your NHS consultant can be added to by tens of thousands.

But you can be wrong 99% of the time. And when you are right it is usually only a slight chink of light in a mountain of gloom and darkness.

Gloom and darkness is all I know these days but it's an illness called depression and even when the sun shines there is a cloud not far away from me and it is a cloud darker than I hope you ever see and darker than I hope you can never imagine.

Gloomy, doomy and despondency, classic and essential ingredients for a Stones supporter. No you are wrong ,I dont know how old you are but you should be enjoying e everything about the club, win, lose or draw. I have now been at this club for 48 years and I do not regret a single day but life has kicked me in the bollocks so many times of late I cant help being very down and moody. There are 3 things in life that keep me going 1. Music 2. The Stones 3. The friends i have met watching no.2 Take any of these away and I would be completely lost. Enjoy yourself now as you do not know what tomorrow will bring.

Good piece by Laura Kuenssberg: BBC News - Brexit: Will it be a Canadian or an Australian ending? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-51360178Just in case there is anyone out there who thinks Brexit is now 'done', and/or that Boris and his cronies (aka the government) always speak the truth.

I must confess that I am a little surprised and confused, as I did not realize you were an avid Gills supporter.

An interesting piece. I found the PS interesting. I think we have much longer than 1 year to go on this. I also think the end deal will be watered down to BrINO.
