Not sure about this group taunting of a frail elderly man because he didn’t attend home matches in another town 20 years ago. It doesn’t reflect well on Maidstone United or the small group of people who were there and are now demanding the club make special provision for them. He said sorry for inadvertently offending Tim. Maybe time to move on? Just reflect on what our frail old man wrote about supporters - many of whom did turn up in those 20 years. "But it also has to be pointed out that a solution to most of the problems would be for supporters to buy season tickets. If you can't be bothered to show your loyalty to the club by having a ST, you can't really complain if you can't get a ticket to games like this." We are sorry we don't get ST. I've only been to 5 home league games this season because I work every other Saturday and have my kids on Monday and Tuesday nights. Sword has mobility issues and has to get from Tonbridge, yet JDL is happy popping at him as well. Others such as Rob etc are good loyal fans who have stuck with us through the years not just when a certain standard of football was plonked on their doorstep. Oh and he makes Hungary with regularity but couldn't find Sittingbourne and Ashford. I stand by my words and don’t care if I’m a in minority of one. It looks like bullying and doesn’t reflect well on Maidstone United fans.

If you are going to wade around attacking people about their loyalty, when you have shown less then they are going to respond. You can claim bullying but none of the people responding asked for the opening salvos about their loyalty or coach arrangements. He only apologised because he got picked up on it.

I’m not even sure what people are arguing about.

Happy to cancel your seats if you’re that unhappy? Dartford Tunnel M25 M1 M6! I’d rather be there than sitting in traffic after a fatality wondering if we’d get there! Clearly you know better than me! This bellend always knows better. He paints the past with a foggy grey but he knows the future because it's clear blue skies all the way . The rest of us live in the real world. If you live in the real world, I'm very glad I don't!

I've obviously (accidentally) stung him deeply at some point in the past and he just won't let go. Of course I don't think everyone should get a ST, otherwise they're not loyal - I went to some length after that paragraph to point that out. I was merely point out that it would be an argument. And to compare our once or twice a year visits to Hungary (which is as much my children's home as Britain is) with not travelling to Sittingbourne during the Wilderness Years is madness bordering on the pathological!

quote author="@johndaubneyslegs" source="/post/252144/thread" timestamp="1708122274"]Impossible to please everyone when there are fewer tickets than people wanting them - and not enough time/resources to do a better job. Also, we are a small club, often relying on volunteer help, who very rarely has to cope with these sort of situations.
That isn't to say it couldn't have been handled better (eg consideration given to people who work or live at distance, vouchers printed on selected programmes, proof of attending away games, etc).
But it also has to be pointed out that a solution to most of the problems would be for supporters to buy season tickets. If you can't be bothered to show your loyalty to the club by having a ST, you can't really complain if you can't get a ticket to games like this.
And imagine the difference it would make to running the club if they got the money for 2-3000+ season tickets at the beginning of each season. [/quote]
Well there is the whole quote. Can't see much evidence of JDL saying getting a season ticket was just an argument, unless his follow up still claiming there were plenty of regular attendees who could afford a ST.
He makes a wild claim that I'm stung by something he said years ago. Quite strange really, considering I've offered him lifts to games several times. More BS.
Why is comparing going to Hungary to going to Sittingbourne bordering on insanity, when I'm answering someone using the 'frail old man' defence? I could be making claims about someone being stung by my words while pretending to ignore them and encouraging others to block. What a mofo.
Sorry, but rather than pretend some utter lie about me, JDL should apologise to all the true fans that couldn't get tickets to a big game, for inferring they were not very loyal. Pathetic behaviour of the highest kind.

How many "true fans" did not get a ticket? What constitutes a true fan? (Attending only 5 home games this season does not amount to a true fan in my estimation.) A fan should be measured by the contribution made to the club. Is a true fan of Arsenal one who watches their games on TV but never goes to watch a live game? If people are encouraged to buy tickets for a big game they may become the true fans of the future (and attend more than 5 home games before the end of the season) and perhaps buy a season ticket next time. What efforts did fans who did not get a ticket make? hbs admits that he could not join the queue but arranged for someone to get his ticket and I am sure others could have done the same.

There was one suggestion the club should employ someone to ensure nobody worthy misses out. Don’t know any club who have ever done that. Both Ipswich and Coventry make everyone join a points scheme, despite the latter having been down to <3000 attendances at Northampton. How long does the debt from the wilderness years last? Until death? Oliver and Terry repaid that debt when they loaned the money to build a new stadium. I’ve offered my spare ticket to a real fan, but no system will be fair to absolutely everyone.

Who is worthy of first dibs for tickets. Imagine we had Coventry at home. I see Averley sponsors pay a minimum of £3000 so we would probably get more. Season ticket revenue is important in the close season and is an indication of the future attendance then you have the players and staff allocation. They should get first chance with 2 tickets for ST holders and one ticket per £1000 for sponsors along with players and staff. After that a first come basis. That is fair to those who take a chance at the start of the season (we lost in the covid year) and is a just reward for financially supporting the club.

I've attended 15 games in total this season and was down in SOMERSET (waves at pwe🤣) this weekend for a game that never was. However, if you feel that the man in the local rag who had bought a ticket for his first ever game is more worthy than my 26 years of continued support or the support of Sword or Rob to name 2, then I bow to your knowledge. Some people don't know lots of people who are season ticket holders. I'm not sure what they do about that.

If you are boiling it down to pure finances then early bird season ticket holders are paying £11.09 a game compared to £17.00 for pay on the day. Oh and I'd happily pay for five games up front. No discount required to entice me.

We could offer a book of five tickets to supporters that they can use for any league game. No discounts but you go on a list of preferential contact after season ticket holders.

A book of full price tickets paid for in advance is a good idea but 5 is pitiful. To be meaningful it would need to be 10. A first time supporter who may catch the bug and become a season ticket holder for the next 5 years is more valuable to the club than a long time supporter who attends only 5 home games (the club does not gain financially from away support). As I said before season ticket holders support the club at a time when it is most needed and take a gamble. The covid year most of us allowed the club to keep the money even though there were no games, last year we paid to watch a miserable season whereas occasional supporters were able to pick and choose the games they wished to pay for so yes ST holders should get priority as they are not fair weather supporters or glory hunters.
