Not seen the highlights yet, but we sit pretty near the goal and he did handle the ball outside the area - but his feet were still inside. Does that count? I've no idea! If that's the case it's handball. It's where the ball is that counts. Judging by the rest of his performance, if the ref had seen it he'd quite likely he'd have given a straight red. Fortunately he probably didn't have the best angle to tell and the bodies around the ball shielded it from the linesman.

Well if jdl's right then I must be wrong. It was close, but I thought Hadler was ok (just), but he knew he couldnt take another step. Hence the 'stressy moment'. Maybe Hadler was at fault but he looked pretty sound to me overall.

Maybe Hadler was at fault but he looked pretty sound to me overall. Not too clear from the highlights, but the ball does land outside the box, which suggests that Hadler handled it outside as well. But that happened almost in front of us, so we had a much better view than STV, and he definitely reached outside the box to catch the ball. He initially had his right foot over the line too, but he moved it back before catching the ball. I don't think the ref had a very good view - Ellul might have blocked his view completely - but the lino should have been well placed to have seen it. Haddler definitely lucky - but that was what that ref was like - he weasn't particularly bad for us, he was just all round inconsistent. And, as others have pointed out, he fell for Chesterfield's tricks almost every time. Other than that (and one kick that went over the MS!), Hadler had a pretty good game, especially when you consider that that was his first game back in nearly 7 months. He made some blinding saves as well.

Just as well we had a match fit back up keeper while Hadler’s injured. Thought Mersin did well with an early one on one and several good saves. Only conceding one goal was a bonus as well.

Whatever the respective merits of Hadler and Mersin, and they are both decent keepers, imo we def need both of them. What Hak did wrong and upset quite a a few supporters, was to play one of them, to the total exclusion of the other, for so many matches. That is the way to breed disillusionment, disharmony and lack of match fitness. If there is barely anything to choose between Mersin and Hadler as Hak says, then he should find a way to rotate them and keep everybody content.

So you think it's more acceptable to drop a player in form to give someone else a game. All I can say is it's a good job you're not a manager. This isn't kids football where you try to give everyone a game. I bet you would have moaned like anything if we'd dropped Luque last year to give someone else a go.

If there is barely anything to choose between Mersin and Hadler as Hak says, then he should find a way to rotate them and keep everybody content. Or, swapping them every couple of games would cause even more problems and lack of continuity and team cohesiveness. Give them each a decent run, which would have continued if Hadler wasn’t injured. As for upsetting quite a few supporters, since when is that any criteria for team selection? The sense of entitlement about player selection and back room staff is quite astonishing. Hakan has to choose his team based on his own assessment from working with staff every day, right or wrong, not social media popularity.

There you are Bernie, going off on one again. I didn't say anything about supporters views should be taken into account, just that there were plenty who didn't like Hak's chouce.

At the risk of resurrecting this thread, here are comparative stats on our keepers in league games:
Mersin P15 W3 D3 L9 GA 36 Av 2.4
Sanford. 7. 2 3 2. 11. 1.6
Barden. 4. 0. 1. 3. 9. 2.25
Hadler. 3. 0. 0. 3. 9. 3.0
Overall. 29. 5. 7 17. 65. 2.24
So, arguably Barden and Hadler haven't played as many, so not comparable, while Sandford clearly has the best record. Essentially when any of the other three have been in goal, we needed to score three goals to get anything from a game, which we have only managed three times this season - one of them a defeat. Clean sheets - just 4. Three Sandford, one Mersin. We really aren't very good.....

As for the rest, there's not enough data to really 'prove' anything. To my mind, there isn't much to choose between the rest. Like many on here, I'd rather have Hadler, for his distribution and size, but I think we have to face it that, other than Sandford, they're all good NS keepers, but not really up to NL.

Mersin has his faults, but I'm not sure distribution is one of them. We play out from the back a lot more when he's in goal. His only real issue in terms of distribution is the certainty the at least two goal kicks per game will go straight into touch, which is a risk you take if you're constantly trying to find the wings. Overall I don't think there's much difference between Hadler and Mersin other than the perception that Hadler is a more commanding presence. Overall I'd rather have Sandford than either of them, but a shoulder injury for a keeper has to be a major concern for his career going forward and he may never be as good as he was even if we could get him back.

It is a strange business daveu posting yet again in support of Mersin.
The rest of us have our eyes open.

Mersin is a decent shot stopper and that's about it.
In every other respect he just doesn't match up to National League standards.
Tbh I think his level is as a back-up in the NLS or perhaps the main keeper in the Ishmian League.

Hadler with a more commanding presence ?
Not exactly a compliment.

I stood next to Hadler on Saturday, while we were waiting for the barrier to open, and he certainly does have a 'commanding presence' - he's enormous!
I'm just under 6', so I'm used to players being taller than me (even 'small' ones!), but he must have been at least a head taller - and really broad too. He might be better than Mersin purely because he takes up more space!
