Surely even the Hadler fan club would agree playing your first game of the season against the unbeaten league leaders is risky. Surely he'd be a little rusty?
Even with Peter Shilton in goal today would be a tough one :-)

Today will be a tough one for sure.
If the team defends as per recently, it maybe a poison chalice
Pretty sure Tom would luv to play.
Not down to just the keeper though, the defenders in front need to tighten up.

Put this one to bed. Much more organised at the back. Plenty of crosses caught. Even stones live picking up on how vocal Tom was in constant communication with the back 4. Shame about the result, but very positive performance.

Shame about the result, but very positive performance. Couldn’t agree anymore, how much better organised and strong did we look with Hadler and the correct back 4! I know some critics will say we still conceded 2 but you cannot deny in any fashion how much better/ organised we looked as a team! Heartbreak at the end today but wow was there many a positive to take away, bring on next Saturday

Just knew the Mersin haters would be having their say.

If you could read properly and not be so eager to defend the number two keeper you would see my post stated it was good to have the “CORRECT BACK 4” but a defensive unit includes a keeper aswell, it was obvious the critics (you) would see fault in arguably our most organised and unified performance this season! Anyway onwards and upwards to next weekend and a good game against Boreham Wood

Shame you can't bring yourself to say anthing positive about Tom. He looked the real deal today imo. Not criticising Tom, but I don't get the disrespect for Mersin who's done very little wrong in my opinion. To say the defense looked more solid because of Hadler is ridiculous. There's no evidence to support that. It's the first time we've played anything approaching our first choice and suddenly it's all down to Tom. That's not only disrespectful to Mersin, it's disrespectful to the back four as well.

No disrespect for Mersin at all, he's an excellent keeper. And one swallow doesn't make a summer, etc, etc.
But no one can deny how much better we looked at the back today. And Tom played a big part in that.
No shame at all in letting in two (only two) against the league leaders - had we been doing the business properly at the other end, it might easily have been 3-2 or even 3-1.

Totally agree with you jdl. Tom Hadler played exactly the sort of game today that he played throughout most of last season. No surprises there. Of course his presence rubs off on the defence. Everything looked more settled and organised at the back. Tom played his full part.
Very happy with our performance but what a shame we couldn't take just 50% of our very decent chances.

Just knew the Mersin haters would be having their say. Having a keeper constantly in communication with the back 4 helps MASSIVELY. The keeper can see the whole picture, and relaying constant info to the back 4 is crucial in the back 4 performing well. Mersin never does it, and thats what most of us have been saying all season. Today showed this very well.

Did Hadler handle the ball outside the area in the mix up with Ellul that nearly gave away an early goal?
