Without wanting to be accused of being in the "it's just flu" brigade... 2 and 6 winters ago over 20,000 died of flu in the UK (winter just gone, about 9,000) - average is, can't remember, 12-15,000. Counter-actions? Flu jabs (needed annually); tell people to wrap up warm; erm that's about it. No social distancing, mask wearing etc. According to Imperial College today (wait for Oxford Uni to say the opposite tomorrow), COVID antibodies don't last, so any vaccine will again need to be an annual round - and unless / until it dies out, COVID will probably continue to kill thousands each winter (not forgetting about another 150-160,000 people dying annually in the UK of heart disease, same again for cancer), for the foreseeable future. So will there come a point when - and don't confuse this with herd immunity - we're just told to get on with our lives? Jab for those who want to but no more social distancing rules? Masks are in, currently. I take my weekly supermarket shop as a bit of a barometer. Last 3 Fridays, no queue at 430pm; last week the one way system had been done away with and the manager said it's now fine to go as a family (3 of us); but soon masks will be compulsory, and more people seem to be wearing masks / visors. Again I can't be bothered to argue about whether they're a good thing or not. I'm still hovering over the "apply to work from home permanently" button - aware that I'm extremely lucky to have a choice in the matter. I'm pretty much resigned to life being strange until next spring (a full year cycle and maybe there will be better consensus on what to do, by then) - that's a minimum (yes Sennockian I'm agreeing with you...). Watching football sadly very low on the priority list.

My goodness, nws has a whole dossier on all of DaveU's posts. Thats scary. Or he just has too much time on his hands to trawl through every word we have ever posted to throw it back at us. Poor DaveU! nws - are you a Journalist? I know you are a bit backward, generally, but to use silly insults that were being used years ago and quite adequately rebuffed then is sad, even for you. I haven't 'trawled through every word' and I am not 'a journalist'. I simply understand a search facility. Isn't it funny that you were once laughing along and nodding sagely with Barney, as he tried to denounce me by saying that I had posted more than others on the brexit topic. I guess you now think he trawled through every post I made... Anyway, why would you be reading my posts if you thought I was a journalist? Wouldn't you be watching a Facebook post by they'reoutthere335 about aardvarks planing to attack America or something. Amazing nws. You accuse me of silly insults in the same sentence as calling me "backwards". You also accuse me of re-using an insult from years ago when I wasn't even on the forum years ago (which if you were a bright as you make out to be you would have spotted). You say you "just used a search facility" but we all know how long takes to use one and assimilate its results. You do seem slightly obsessed, and seem to have far too much time on your hands to spend on your "research" of this type, and I felt sorry for DaveU. .......and then your cheap shot about aardvarks. What I am going to say now isnt a cheap insult, just a summary of your post. You are a prize hypocrite who really does need to look at the plank in your own eye before judging the sawdust in others eyes. That's another reason why I thought you might be a journalist. You also turn all the football posts into politics, which I am trying not to anymore, as we need footie back - desperately!

Wouldn't you be watching a Facebook post by they'reoutthere335 about aardvarks planing to attack America or something. Amazing nws. You accuse me of silly insults in the same sentence as calling me "backwards". Not an insult, just a statement of fact. You also accuse me of re-using an insult from years ago when I wasn't even on the forum years ago (which if you were a bright as you make out to be you would have spotted). This would have been a great point had I not been rebuffing this nonsense from people like you during your time here. You say you "just used a search facility" but we all know how long takes to use one and assimilate its results. You do seem slightly obsessed, and seem to have far too much time on your hands to spend on your "research" of this type, and I felt sorry for DaveU. Now youcan hardly claim not knowing it was an old insult that carries mo gravitas because it is only slightly less pathetic than its user if you try and labour it. I agree that search results take time to assimilate....for you. As I said, I know how to use the thing so get fairly quick results. Still, keep going. It's marginally less entertaining tjan your rants about knowing more than everyone else while knowing nothing. .......and then your cheap shot about aardvarks. What I am going to say now isnt a cheap insult, just a summary of your post. Admittedly, I have no clue about the aardvarks thing but then I don't know about the intricate workings of your Facebook and Twitter buddies. If I did I would know where Atlantis and the lost city of El Dorado are. You are a prize hypocrite who really does need to look at the plank in your own eye before judging the sawdust in others eyes. Prize stuff from the all-knowing eye that votef brexit. That's another reason why I thought you might be a journalist. You also turn all the football posts into politics, which I am trying not to anymore, as we need footie back - desperately! Sorry to ruin this football post entitled 'Who's out courting covid' started by...er...well...er...me. Doh!

No he's not - haven't you worked it out yet? He really works for MI5 in their disinformation department. He throws out statements to get reactions, bit like fishing, just to get reactions from "fellow" subversives who undermine the british way of life. He has search engines working on all the social media sites, not just this one. All the while using his cover as a worker in the "care" sector. Ironic, really, you couldn't make it up.
Wait for the "knock" on your front door in the early hours.
If anyone has it worked out it is BBJ. We are all blind to the truth, remember? Anyway, Comrade T'Stone, your desertion to the cause of Mother Herne Bay has been noted and you will be receiving your complimentary perfume soon That's you be warned then - Salisbury 2 to a screen near you.

One thing the virus has done is to change our lives forever is so many ways - it is deadly , vicious. It is the honey badger virus as it keeps coming back for more.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53433824Panorama last night and BBC on line this morning. Clear evidence that both the chief scientists and the government gambled with people's lives at the start of the pandemic. One wonders how they sleep at night?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and it's not like Panorama and the BBC never have their own agenda.

Maybe, but still trust them more than the likes of tabloids, where the agenda is very much that of the owners.

For those who wanted something other than football: BBC News - Coronavirus: UK's pandemic planning an 'astonishing failure', say MPs www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53484998 Makes clear what some of us have been saying for a while - this is a government that makes things up as it goes along, mostly on the back of a fag packet. Note too that it is not a politicised report. Select Committees are made up of MPs from all parties and they are saying we had no prior planning in place to deal with an event like this. Given recent scares over the likes of Ebola, HIV, SARS etc, I find that more than a little worrying, though hardly surprising. Bojo is all big ideas, full of rhetoric but little in the way of substance. Piss and wind, while doing the former into the latter is never a good idea either. The report concludes that there are important lessons for the government to learn for the future. With a no deal Brexit, the next flu outbreak, a possible second wave of Covid19, plus another bout of flooding, we can only hope they are paying attention. Saying it is all going to be ok by Christmas is not the best start...

Which is why I found it confusing when on TV yesterday, Tracy Daszkiewicz (who effectively saved Salisbury from novichok) said the government was well prepared for the next epidemic, which came rather sooner than she expected. But I have seen no evidence that the government had any policy of any sort in place, other than not spending public funds on precautions that might not be needed. But were.

Saying it is all going to be ok by Christmas is not the best start... When we get an actual government, they can start learning those lessons! I do like the new method of working...if you don't investigate something then you can claim no evidence has been found. I'm sure I heard a similar methodology somewhere before...
