Its all confusing. Its all rubbish. None of it makes sense, so lets all agree with Swordy, drop this thread like we did the brexit ones, and stick with the footy, yes? Two weeks ago, you knew everything and we were all in the dark...my how you forget. The news and media and reports and "science" and government "guidance" and practises are all rubbish and don't make sense (deliberately, to keep us all in fear, in the dark, and in subjection) SO LETS ALL AGREE, NWS, TO DROP THIS THREAD LIKE WE DID THE BREXIT ONE AND STICK WITH THE FOOTY!!!!!!! Thank you!

That ain't going to happen while all this confusion reigns. It is a bit like a home team's fans opinion of the referee and, like the government, he/she rarely finds favour and needs to be discussed with plenty of verbal abuse.

Thank you! As facts unravel the nonsense you have spoken (on brexit a little more has been delivered lately...no food import standards enshrined in law and the governing party's refusal to recognise Parlimentary sovereignty on trade deals -remember Parliamentary sovereignty?) You will of course wish to talk about some squirrels elsewhere. I don't believe I made the agreement you claim.

BBJ - there is a lot of conflicting information out there, because there are a lot of people who have completely misunderstood what the scientists are saying. At best this is because the scientists remain uncertain themselves and hence are recommending we adopt a precautionary approach re social distancing. At worst the confusion is arising because people are asserting as fact things which are untrue according to scientific experts. This is why I suggested in this or another thread to check Professor Paul Kellam's twitter account. He is not only an ex Maidstonian but he is an expert in viral genomics. A list of other relevant experts can be found amongst the SAGE advisers.
To lessen the confusion a little, your suggestion that the NHS conducts a general 'coronavirus' test, which is not specific enough to identify SARS-CoV-2, is simply untrue. To repeat it often is to spread confusion where there should be none. The test is specifically for this new strain, not for pre-existing coronaviruses. The NHS website has presumably used the term 'coronavirus' rather than SARS-CoV-2 because that is the common parlance.
Please don't take this as a personal attack, it isn't. It is, instead, an attack on misinformation which you, others and no doubt I have, at times, spread over the past few months. To sum it up, believe the leading virologists and epidemiologists not the politicians, not friends, not random health workers or the media.

No one knows nuffing.
Except me - after today's shopping trip I know two things for certain:
1) I f**king HATE wearing a mask! I can't breath, it's hot and sweaty, and I can't see properly. Wouldn't be so bad if there was any point in them, but, unless everyone wears them (see point 2), there isn't.
2) The feral yoof of Maidstone don't wear masks. And they don't socially distance either. There's your second wave brewing, right there.

I look like f**king prince jug ears himself. Talking of his royal elephant earsness I have heard tha Betfred have accepted a £10 bet that he calls himself Queen Elizabeth 3rd in honour of his mother. It's no wonder Fred Done is a Zillionzire.

To sum it up, believe the leading virologists and epidemiologists not the politicians, not friends, not random health workers or the media Thanks distantfan, I will check out Professor Paul, and I will take on board your comments and check them out for sure, and certainly dont take them personally or negatively at all. However, your very reasonable and fair post has one small flaw - when you say that "The NHS website has PRESUMABLY used the term "coronavirus..........." in other words you are yourself only guessing (presuming) that bit, and you have no real idea (i.e. guessing), so you cant say that my opinion on that test is any more wrong than yours, as yours is just opinion as well, and so saying its any more right than mine could be called misinformation, too. I therefore remain unchanged in my opinion on the NHS test over your opinion, but I will check on what the epidemiologists and virologists you refer to are saying about the virus.

Cheers BBJ. I could have been clearer in my previous post. When I wrote 'presumably' it was solely in reference to why the NHS communications people chose to write 'coronavirus' instead of SARS-CoV-2. As we know, public relations information often places low importance on being technically accurate.
I did not write 'presumably' regarding whether the test is specific to SARS-CoV-2. That is a known fact. They are testing for the live SARS-CoV-2 virus or antibodies to it. The initial delays to obtaining accurate testing processes were because various academic and commercial labs (virtually one and the same these days) were racing to come up with a test for a new virus.

Ok Df so why doesn’t the test result say you have been tested positive for SARS-CoV-2(it’s a medical test after all and such things are normally precise) and why did the person I know who got a positive result exhibit zero symptoms of that virus and got a negative test within three weeks?

Becauses you don't always show symptoms and he probably no longer had it three weeks later when retested. But don't worry about logic, you just carry on believing whatever crackpot theory you want. You will anyway, regardless of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

[br That’s the point Dave there IS no overwhelming evidence and it’s all probablies just as you say yourself and yet my beliefs are labeled as crackpot and yours aren’t just because yours are those of the oh so truthful media and the mainstream view so of course they cannot be wrong can they. In Nazi Germany the mainstream view wasn’t wrong was it nor in Stalins Russia and I’m sure it isn’t in North Korea either.Sometimes the mainstream can be wrong. Very wrong. And most of the population can be very very taken in by it. It happens.

And most of the population can be very very taken in by it. It happens. The reason DaveU has said you have crackpot theories is because on this very forum over a number of threads you have blamed the covid-19 coronavirus on at least 6 different things with wild theories, most of which are the dumb stuff shared by the "Karen's" on Facebook/twitter who think anything on social media is true. Yes mainstream media both televised and printed try and steer you to want to share their ideologies but surely even you can accept that sensible normal down to earth people take the news with a pinch of salt and that if you read the right wing supporting news and then the left wing supporting news you'll find a few similarities and the truth and clearer picture in-between what each side are saying. Sadly too many people in this country are easily led and believe the first thing put in front of them, the amount of times I've seen people believe the Huffington Post spoof news stories believing them to be real on social media is worrying. Oh and in the nazi germany regime, lots of germans disagreed with it, the problem was if they showed their disagreement they would be shot, crap just typed that out and images of Portland/Oregon with trumps federal troops flashed through my mind, you would've hoped the world had moved on since 1915 and/or 1945 but seems as though the cancer of planet earth human beings are not done in ruining it.
