There is a partial truth in what you say, mainly in regards to pushing political agendas. To suggest the Guardian is in the same league as the Mail when it comes to lying and sensationalism...well, I never read such nonsense Typical biased response from a Guardian reader. I'd expect exactly the same response from the gammons who read the Mail and Torygraph. Just to point out I'm pretty much politically neutral do don't really have an axe to grind with any section of the press. I rarely buy a paper but if I do it is generally the I. You are claiming to be politically neutral having claimed, last year, to be slightly right wing and regular Tory voter. An interesting development although I"m sure you said you didn't vote for Alex. The Telegraph used to be an OK read but it has become more sesationalist. I will leave you in your belief that the Guardian is the left wing equivalent of the Mail. I'm astounded you believe this but it's your opinion.

I don't dislike the Guardian (great cryptic crosswords - Araucaria RIP) as much as its readers' self-righteous pasting / sharing of its articles on social media as if it puts them on some sort of moral high ground. I've snoozed / unfollowed / unfriended a dozen or so FB friends with whom I broadly politically agree - but wave after wave of "ooh look at me, I'm a right-on leftie and don't like Boris" is beyond tedious. From the looks of the "This post is hidden" (nws, ignored) appearances on here, that message hasn't yet got through to Adrian and probably never will. Comments from my personal, not influenced by newspapers viewpoint on 3 recent government moves: Eat Out To Help Out: better than a poke in the eye I suppose, both for pubs and the public. I'm off down the Nag's Head for alfresco half-price dinner tomorrow. Self-isolation on returning from Spain: FFS look at a map, get granular, keep it to people returning from Catalonia and Aragon. Face masks in shops: they've rightly said that outbreaks are happening in households (and meat-packing factories...) mostly in NW England - so you have to wear a face-mask in Budgens in Penzance? Right, good one. These last 2 are just closing the door of the stable next to the one the horse bolted from. A 4th one would be some of the contracts the govt is handing out - whether for PPE to a confectionery wholesaler or the tracing app to a mate of Cummings - but I'll let you google that lot yourselves - or go through your Guardian subscription.

Add to that the tracing programme itself is operated by a private company. Another Old Etonian no doubt...

The trace and track programme is not run by a private company but by an agency within the NHS which answers to Matt Hancock the Health Secretary within the government (which is currently the Conservative party), he's not an Old Etonian but no doubt there is an one in the mix somewhere.

Good article on the BBC backing up the one valid thing I've heard Trump say in the last 4 years (that if you do more tests you'll get more positive cases). Did anyone see his interview last night and his impromptu analysis of some graphs and bar charts? Hilarious. "Look, the USA is less than the World" was the best one.

I saw it on the Guardian site, of course...

I see Nigel Farage is still backing Trump big time, saying he will "Tear Biden to pieces", come the election. As we know, Nigel knows a thing or two about winning elections.

I have to laugh heartily at someone who slates me as a 'look at me, I'm a right on leftie' while simultaneously playing the 'ooh look at me, I'm ignoring NWS' card. If the silly boy ain't read it then how does he know what I have said. Obviously it is much cooler to be in the toothless 'let's appear reasonable while the most inept government ever rips apart our society and kills the vulnerable' brigade. By constantly mentioning his ignoring me he seems to have spectacularly misunderstood the word ignore. Just for the record I was espousing the same views at A Level college and University in the 80s and early 90s when there was nothing 'trendy' about them. As for the belief in the government saying most infections occur between households...words almost fail me! Our '21st century' track and trace system relies on infected person saying who they came into contact with. I don't know about, OS, but I find it easier to remember family members I had contact with rather than the people shopping at my local supermarket.

Knocking Trump...sounds like an attempt to get likes from the 'ooh look at me, I'm a leftie brigade'

Shit happens, especially with this government and trousering large amounts of public money seems to be a favourite occupation.

I was just trying to recall what insight you actually did give us at the start of this thread Adrian. All I could find in the first post was : ...on our "independence day". Johnson is an utter muppet. PS BBJ is excluded on the grounds that there is no covid in his world and it is 5g masts that are the problem Skipping through to page 4 you clarified. My original post was aimed at the fact he found the need to name Saturday 'independence day' and 'super Saturday'. Utterly woeful leadership. He might as well have called it 'plebs go out and spend money mixing and getting covid because we need your money not you' day! Maybe there was even more clarity later on, but I've given up looking. Meanwhile the article you linked to says : I'm obviously not sufficiently cognitively advanced to see it. Did you tell us whether or not you were in favour of re-opening pubs or of allowing households to meet each other? I thought your beef was about calling the re-opening day "independence day" - are you saying that it took about 3 weeks for that slogan to reach Preston?
