Full time players at national League level and below have some difficult choices coming up. Not many will be on contracts of more than a year or two and those that are out of contract will be wondering who can afford them. Add in the fact that unemployment is probably going to rise and even being part time might be a challenge for some, especially if they don't have desirable alternative skills as back up. In the NLS, the ideal former players would be the likes of Tom Mills and Alex Flisher (the fit version) - quality players at this level, who don't need big, full time wages. Ain't going to happen of course. However, the national leagues are going to endure two or three seasons of considerable change and to survive, unless they have a sugar daddy or three, prudence and pragmatism could be the key. Having said all that, would be great to have Manny Parry back here. Him and big George would be a formidible central defence! I liked to see George McLennan return. Think he suffered the most last season with all the manager changes. After a shakey start I think he settled down and put in some good performances. Notably Barnet and Boreham Wood away.

Good shout swampy ! It just seems a bit dispiriting looking back at the number of decent players we have let go, to be replaced by some new signings that was simply not so good in quite a few cases. Even Jay Saunders fell into that trap in his truncated final season at the club. We didn't know at the time that after such a poor start, it was just going to get worse and worse and worse .

He who gifted the Fleet 2 penalties in the playoff final - hope he's matured since! Thought the second one was harsh, definitely more ball to hand than deliberate. The first one however was absolutely stone wall. He wasn't a bad defender and I'm not sure Acheompong was an improvenent.

Too true daveu. Looking back over the past 2/3 seasons, we have released a whole shedful of decent players. So many of the replacements have turned out to be no better and in many cases worse. Scary really ! At the end if the day it is not the fault of players who are not good enough. The buck stops with the manager that recruits them.

I could name plenty of goodish players we have let go over the past couple of seasons And name at least an equal number of poorish players that have been recruited to replace them. But all a bit negative and does nothing much worthwhile except to fill up some more pages.
I know its over different time periods but if I had to compare the records of JS1, the Clown and JS2, who do you think comes out top ?
Whatever, we cannot include Hak on the comparison list because it was pretty obvious that John Still was in charge of player recruitment last season.
By a country mile he had the strongest CV of the 3 for the job.
He did make some good signings imo but overall were players recruited any better or as good as what Jay achieved over a number of seasons ?

Not really, though depends on combinations and circumstances. Am struggling to think of a consistently good player bought in by the clown, though guess one or two of the keepers were decent enough.

Not convinced that Wilson and Doyle were that special (wern't they both loans) As for the old Ebbsfeet players, Shields and Powell, pretty sure Shields was a decent winger but another too expensive loan signing. Powell was a neat midfielder but tbh I prefer Corne and Khan. Just some of the shedload of players that remind me of the bad days of not very long ago.

Another player that we have def seen the last of, but he was decent, in an expensive sort of way.

I see Afc Wimbledon have today realised their retained list. Among those let go are go are Maidstone born Scott Wagstaff, former Stone Mitchell Pinnock and forward Tommy Wood who was on loan at Tonbridge last season and I belive lives local.

But why would the club want Mitchell Pinnock ? Been here, seen him, didn't make the grade. Scott Wagstaff, a 30 year old ex league journeyman, nothing special and not what we need now. As for Tommy Wood nothing suggest he is better than what we have but maybe swordy knows a bit more after his Tonbridge loan. Don't need changes for the sake of it. Local connections isn't everything

Dan Wishart Agreed, Dan has been a decent pro and didn't realise he was the clown's signing. Guess if you take on enough, eventually one or two will work out ok.
