Agree it's been difficult for any government, but those that have followed Italy, France and Spain had at least a couple of weeks warning as to what was going to happen, with a month to see what China and S Korea did. So the later each outbreak started, the fewer excuses for not taking notice of what was happening abroad. So bad marks for Trump and the clown in Brazil in particular, with C-/D for Bojo, at best.

Situation in Brazil makes me weep. As many of you know, Mrs OS is Brazilian. We were hoping to go out there this summer for the 1st time in 5 years. That's all put back a year, minimum.

The worst countries for dealing with Covid: USA, Brazil, Russia, UK.
What could the connection possibly be - surely not the character/ability of the leaders?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52993734 I'll be interested to see what people make of this one. BBJ and HKS will say that the BBC are in collusion with the Chinese Secret Service. JDL won't read it as it's not from the Grauniad. Sword will say it's proof that we should be totally isolated from Europe. No COVID deaths in Oxfordshire hospitals for 2 weeks (up to 5 June)... So it didn't come from Wuhan. It wasn't bats or pangolins, wet markets, bad labs or US troops on manoeuvres after all. It was the eyeties. Of course. Or maybe that upper class toffee nosed twit Boris single handedly spread it with his obviously philandering ways (He is a Tory, after all, fnar fnar) through his French Italian and Spanish mistresses, like they do, those rich b*stewards. And his cronies (Seeth, writhe, spit, froth at mouth, grab me flat cap and woodbine). China? They are so honourable, so trustworthy, and were so up front about their brief flirtation with a little bit of a virus problem early on, how could we ever doubt them? They are our trade buddies, after all, and we just love their sweet and sour balls. So the previous reports of mass Chinese travel for their New Year earlier this year spreading the virus, especially to cities with high Chinese populations like London and NY were rubbish after all. Phew! I am so glad we have the BBC to help us make sense of it all. But where did all those old Luigi's and Pedro''s and Pierre's get it from? What does Italy France and Spain have in common? OMG It must be the WINE!!!!! I can see it now - government enforced burning of vineyards creates a smoke pall over the whole of Europe that puts us into a months nightfall and red skies and blood moons of biblical proportions...…………………..remember, you heard it hear first. ……and its as plausible as any of the other daily constantly contradictory, confusing and deliberately ridiculous and misleading rubbish we are all fed by the media. I think the report is talking about our sources. It obviously originated in China. When, nobody is sure. Whether we go with this report or your theory about China, two things ring out. We should have been curtailing travel in and testing everyone at airports when we knew what was happening in China and Italy. We should have gone into lockdown earlier.

Guernsey have had no deaths, but two things are different there: 1) They prepared for coronavirus in January, and 2) the island is run by a woman. How is it that all countries run by women, particularly New Zealand, have fared so much better?

Because they are better at cleaning than men? Certainly why they are better at washing up - their feet being smaller, they can stand nearer the sink.

And don't forget Taiwan, run by cat loving spinster Tsai Ing Wen, an island nation of 24 million has only had 6 deaths. She also, being biased for action, sensibly banned flights from PR China back in January.

Considereing that China doesn't recognise (or allow anyone else to recognise) Taiwan, I'm surprised thar there are flights to and from the PR. How is their destination described on the signs in PR airports - "Flying from one part of the PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC of CHINA to another part of the PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC of CHINA, but most certainly not Taiwan, of my word, no"? By the by, given that the 'one country, two systems' myth has now been clearly shown to be the load of old bollocks it always was, are you making plans to return to the UK, or will you tough it out over there, or move on to somewhere else?

Flights from the PRC to Taiwan started up around 10 years ago when there was a Beijing friendly government in Taipei and have continued even through the change of government to the staunchly independent minded one they have now. In PRC airports HK, Macau and Taiwan all are in limbo and signs for non-domestic flights effectively say something like "International, HK, Macau and Taiwan", trying to make the point that the latter 3 are still part of China even though they all have their own, non-PRC, passports.
As for Hong Kong's death by 1000 cuts (I estimate we are currently up to #908) then one has long term plans and financial goals and once these are achieved then I am free to go wheverer I chose depending on the prevailing circumstances. That said of course if it all goes tits-up tomorrow then I am on the first plane back to the UK.

Find myself increasingly incredulous at what the government is serving up at the moment. In the last few days we have had massive U turns on free school meals (very welcome), then the tracking app, which was meant to be rolled out last month, but now won't happen until the winter - or maybe not at all. Now the education secretary says all pupils will be back in September, which must be at least the third time he's changed his mind. As a primary school governor, how you fit 30 kids in a classroom with even one metre distancing is beyond me. My local school classrooms are all 27 square metres, but have to fit in 30 pupils somehow. Perhaps the government are going to find umpteen thousand portakabins as extra space, along with the same number of teachers too? Meanwhile, the EU are creating funds to help the worst hit countries, like Italy and Spain. Had we stayed, would we have benefitted too? Instead, we are leaving, hell bent on a no deal scenario that can only make our basket case economy even worse. But it's all going to be fine, because Boris says so. Hmmm...

The Isle of Man has had no new cases for 30 days.
I wonder what it has in common with New Zealand , Taiwan and Guernsey ?
