You had to be there to see just how bad it was. The bench had 3 midfielders, 2 defenders and 2 keepers. Not a forward . And we were as shockingly bad as the referee. Nice of Radio Kent to present live coverage of the embarrassment. After our game I had the extra time on in my car - sorry but I did have a bit of a chuckle.

Bad vibes on the Ebbsfleet forum tonight. Swampy pitch, transfer embargo and Royston defeat. Shut the club down, screams one thread. They're usually quite normal compared to us.

As bad as we were last season, we managed to score 1.
I have seen Chesterfield play in Chesterfield 3 times in my life (one was in a pub in chesterfield). This was early 90s, mid 90s and last season it has been the same day in April each time.

Not strictly the place to post this, but more football money madness. Aston Villa made a loss of £69m last year - their promotion season. But it would have been even worse if they hadn't managed to sell their ground (effectively to themselves - their new owners bought it, via a separate company), without that 11th hour 'income', their loss would have been £105m - which might have breeched the EFL's financial profit and sustainability regulations. Presumably, they were banking on the PL TV money to balance the books this season, but it looks like they might have to make do with just parachute payments next season... www.theguardian.com/football/2020/mar/04/aston-villa-announce-69m-loss-despite-sale-of-villa-parkWhat chance is there of the lower leagues ever getting clubs to live within their means, if the 'big' clubs behave like this?

And there is the rub. 99% of clubs do it and yet they are first to bleat when the walls come crashing down.

Overall, it illustrates the strange world we live in, where rich and mega rich individuals are spunking obscene amounts of money purely for self gratification. At the top of the pyramid is the Bloomberg guy, blowing half a billion dollars on the Democratic party nomination. Further down, bit seems there are any number of very wealthy people happy to distort markets, un-level playing fields and bend rules so that they can win at whatever is their personal ambition. Life ain't fair, shit happens etc, but the bottom line must be that this is what rules and laws are for - to stop unscrupulous individuals from benefitting solely from their wealth and power. Unfortunately, the more wealth/power/influence you have, the easier it becomes to bend the rules to suit your own purpose. To quote from 'She stood on the bridge at midnight': It's the rich what gets the pleasure, it's the poor what gets the blame. It's the same the whole world over and it's all a f**king shame.

Makes you wonder if T&O are reconsidering their announcement of a week or two ago. They're now looking at a very different financial picture than they were then - will we still be able to afford to stay 'full-time' next season, for instance?
