Watched by a crowd of 2,306 I thought this was an excellent advert for our league and one which we didn't deserve to lose. Settled by an excellent counter attack from Margate along with a very cool finish. We applied pressure, hit the bar, had one disallowed but it just wouldn't go in. I thought our team played magnificantly tonight against a well-matched Margate side. Every player looked good on that pitch.
My only complaint from tonight was not being allowed to have a top on my bottle of water. A bit of a nuisance that you are trying to commentate while holding your bottle of water. Perhaps someone from Margate could explain the reasoning behind that one. Other than that a good night except for the result.

They always do that with the bottles of drink. Carry a spare in your pocket and job done.

Good summary, agree with it all.
Just one gripe was the quality of the officials. Thought they were appalling for both sides, seemed to want to be the centre of attention.
That aside good game against a very good margate side and we were certainly not outclassed.

Yes a decent game between 2 good sides, not much between them and we probably had the better chances over the whole game and certainly deserved a point. Was impressed by the numbers attending from Maidstone, must have been 500-600, a little bit of hassle after the goal but it was sorted out. Time to go on another run now, upwards and onwards.

Could have gone either way really, some dodgy decisions as always and it was reassuring that we weren't outclassed. Margate were good mentally, never losing their cool really, no serious time wasting and they knew how to react to things with regards to the officials. Phipp looked to be going out of his way to get Flisher booked and that then really hampered his ability to get stuck in.
No opinion on the disallowed goal because I didn't catch a glimpse of Watt's position before the ball came in, the one off the bar was a blatant handball though. Hopefully now it won't mean changing a winning team we'll rest some players on Saturday. Every outfield player on the bench is good enough to start and we could do with giving a little break to a few players to make sure we don't get burnt out.
I don't think we need any major changes going forward so I'm not worried this early in the season. Who knows maybe winning will trigger a bit of complacency from Margate, I know if we'd won I would be thinking that's the biggest test out of the way.

Margate are clearly a very good side and I think they'll be pleased with their performance, however I think our boys deserve a hell of a lot of credit for the work they put in and on another day we could have taken all 3 points tonight. Frannie has missed at least 3 chances he'd normally put away, thought we had a couple of good penalty shouts and by the sounds of it Steve Watts effort that hit the line was either over the line or clawed out of the goal by a defenders hand.....guess we'll have to wait for the highlights.
On tonight's showing against the overwhelming favourites to win this league I'd say we should be pretty pleased with the squad Jay has assembled.
How many Maidstone fans there? Possibly around the 800 mark but hard to tell.

My first ever away game tonight and it was a bloody good atmosphere. Just a shame about the result but again some appalling refereeing which went against us. What a superb away support we had but jesus how many were outside the game when it kicked off ?

Agree with all the comments above (even the tonbridge 1 lol) but did it kick off big after the game or something? Well done to Jay, the boys and our fans overall alot of positives can be taken from this, btw did anyone else spot the margate girls? i know shacky did lol

I'm hear to gloat...Nah not really
Thoroughly enjoyable game tonight, very tense and very tight though. We could have scored a couple more tonight, you could have scored a couple. If it had finished 1-1 I think that would have been fair. As someone said on the Margate facebook page when you put in consideration the level off football played by both teams and the attendance you could have mistaken the game for a Conference game. Looking forward to visiting Gallagher stadium and hopefully there will be no repeat off what happened when we scored.

According to my dad a Margate fan jumped up chucking beer over your fans and it escalated from there, the stewards dealt with it quickly supposedly and as far as i'm concerned the rest of the game was a peaceful affair amongst supporters. Someone is saying about it kicking off outside the ground, but no Margate fan has mentioned this as yet

I'm thinking this means there were people still outside the ground at kickoff, not it kicked off outside the ground.

that makes sense as I know someone who said it was a very long queue and was about half way up the road
