Das Boot All quiet on the western front Stalingrad It was always good to see how war was perceived on the other side I also liked Letter from Iwo Jima and Flags of our Fathers which gave both perspectives of the war in the Far East. I also enjoyed the epic Saving Private Ryan OK, so going back a bit, 'A Matter Of Life & Death' a 1946 Film starring David Niven ( refer en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Matter_of_Life_and_Death_(film) ). They don't make 'em like that any more..........

I'll never forget watching the out break of the gulf war on the news. The enormity of it hitting home, the questions it made. I remember the footage of the Falklands too. I would have been 4. My work mate was there, a sniper in 2 para.

I can vividly remember the the television showing the oil fields burning, I was in the Army at the time still in training, hoping that the war carried on, for selfish reason, unfortunately or fortunately it ended too quickly for me

They had the 4th largest army in the world at the time, all left over from the Iran Iraq war. Who won that? Was it fought in Iran?

Iraq won the war and they were supplied by yes you guessed it the Americans, they supported Saddam all through the war including weapons of mass destruction along with chemical weapons, there were terrible atrocities on both side over the almost 8 years of the war, obviously Saddam got a bit big for his boots and his US paymasters didn't like that, the rest is history

They hated Gaddafi then budied up for a while with intel on Osama bin laden and his cronies and then like Hussein they decided he had served his purpose. Hate the hypocrisy and that we follow so gladly. Torture permitted by a western power in this day and age and we supported it utterly disgraceful after claiming to be the champions of the Geneva conventions etc.

Bin Laden was trained by the Americans and supplied with weapons, mind you the 80's any war was usually backed by the Americans or Russians, when the Russians invaded Afghanistan, the mujahideen were trained and supplied by the US, which was portrayed in the movie Charlie Wilsons War, Which had a sting in the tail at the end when after spending billions supplying the Afghans, the US got bored at the end and stopped funding them, I believe the figure was 10 million to help support the next phase of helping the country back on its feet it was called developing hearts and minds

That raises a couple of interesting hypotheticals...
Which football teams do we think great figures from world history would have supported?
Which great figures from world history would we want to support the Stones? Gandhi MLK and JFK can support the Stones Jimmy Hoffa and Al Capone suited well to the Gills. Lord Nelson with his route one tactics most likely the old crazy gang. Hitler wasnt much of a team player so would have managed a team - badly again the Gills would have him. Churchill again a manager but for us. Henry VIII would have been into ladies football

It amazes me how one man's idea can affect so many. Some for good some for bad. Until its seen through you don't know which one.
