My, my my. When I expressed concern in the summer about the slowness of our recruitment and the struggles we seemed to be having recruiting good players everyone piled in that I was panicking.
Now a few PSF's which are showing up the team as probably being far from JS2 and Haks first choices, and everyone is pushing that panic button harder than I ever did!
I wont say I told you so just yet as we havent kicked off in NLS yet and I am hoping the stuttering PSF's are just down to not gelling or finding our mojo just ye and that I was terribly wrong and that this lot ARE JS2 and Haks first, second or third choices (at worse) and all will come good very soon.
I did say also that we needed an experienced lump of a striker who knows where the net is!
Maybe some players may come available when the season starts in earnest and they find they aren't first choice in their current clubs as expected, as we may need to still bolster the squad before too many NLS games go South on us!

You were panicking and are now. We were never, and clubs rarely, get their first choices. We may well have been able to get a squad together quicker but that wouldn’t have made the pre-season any different as we still wouldn’t have trained until the first week of July. It is the wholesale change to the squad that is driving this poor performance and not that quality of the squad. I think a “lump” could be useful though but that’s usually a sign of a shite team. I don’t just post on here to disagree with you Oldboy but I do generally disagree with most of your opinions.

No, not panicking. I'll reserve that until we have a few NLS games under our belts!
Also I wasn't expecting all first choices, but have we got ANY first choices? Who knows.
I think it could have made a difference to have got the squad together quicker and working together sooner, but Im glad you agree a CF lump could be useful, particularly, as the management said that at the supporters evening, on dodgy NLS away pitches, in the depths of Winter we may not be able to play along the ground!
……….but if you are on a mission to disagree with me just because it is me, maybe you'll change your mind on that now!

Maybe with your vast array of contacts and years of experience building teams and having the finances to pay players an extra months wage you could've popped down to the Gallagher and offers john, haj and terry/oliver/bill you unenviable knowledge or limitless funds which would've made it much easier for them to recruit players you've heard of.

Whatever happens, we need to bed in quickly and play some exciting football.
The unwritten 'deal' the fans have made with the club is, "OK, we forgive last season's cock-ups, the awful football we watched, and relegation - but on condition that this season we see some decent football and win games, especially at home. We don't expect promotion, we just want to enjoy our football again".
If that doesn't happen, where are we?
And, at the moment, the signs are not exactly good.
Not panicking. But not exactly filled with anticipation of August either...

Fans would be right to be concerned, we had a poor pre season last year and that was a sign of things to come with it following onto league form seeing the sacking of Jay, and through the most part before the inevitable became a reality those who spoke out about how poorly we were playing were told to have faith so it can be forgiven why a group of fans have this view because it was proven correct.
Like last year, underwhelming start and still struggling to complete in the league below with signings. With two weeks to go, I’m hoping John Still has a few ace cards up his sleeve. Hakan I can’t warm too, so for now it’s all his fault.

Had we kept most of last season's players, in some ways, we might have done ok this season. Results against lower league teams in cup games bear that out. However, the poisoned chalice those players created meant they had to go and a clean start made. Personally, have never thought we would bounce straight back, or that it would be good in the long term to do so. Nobody will be more pleased if we do manage it, but realistically the odds are stacked against us. Decent home form, runs in both the FA cups and the return of the feel good factor to the Gallagher are what I'd like to see this season. Anything else is a bonus and after all the disappointments of last season I'm not going to get excited about our prospects, at least for now.

Not sure it was the players who created the poisoned chalice. The blame lies squarely with the man who brought most of them in and then utterly failed to gel them into a team.

JDH, I was relying on John Stills vast array of contacts and years of experience building teams to get us a squad, as we all were.
Time will tell if he truly had the former and if the latter is still any good.

You are not alone in that woodstone! Come on Nick, you and I have many agreements on many issues, Does that make you unreasonable, too?
Getting a bit tired now of being everyone's bullseye for just expressing my views, even when others same similar things (Hammer?).
Seems like this forum is full of people who want to impose one single view of the truth (i.e their own) on everyone and woe betide anyone with a differing view. Getting bored with it now.

Funny how you always pull that accusation out whenever anyone disagrees with you. I'm still waiting for you to point out where I've insulted you or bullied you. Seems no one's allowed to suggest you are panicking or being negative without being accused of bullying.

Tbf oldboy I tend to agree with around 50% of your views and disagree with the other 50%. I must admit to be a shade nervous about some of the reservations you have expressed about the quality of the team recruited and the quality of performances to date. I want you to be 100% wrong again.
