"no letters or numbers are used in shield-shaped crests.
As loopy as it may sound, the footballing super-powers could be forced to change their badges if legal authorities on ancestry deem them “heraldic devices”."
Surely that could mean another potential change then come September?? This can't be the reason for the change. It doesn't fit the protocol.

Can't understand why Scottish law applies here! Have the SNP won the election?

More merchandise sales for the club. Lovely jubbly. I can't wait to get my new gear.

Let's get things in perspective the owners of the club haven't done too badly so far and have listened to the supporters, there is more than likely a valid reason why the badge on the shirts has changed and it's probably down to cost, the existing badge I would think is costly to put on shirts hence the more simpler design, like others as long as the shirts remain Amber and black I'm not overly worried about the badge.....COYS

I think it may allow the badge to be copywrited, Wolves did something similar many years back as for a bit they played using the town crest but changed to the hexagon design to allow them to have full use on merchandise.
I personally think swapping the amber and black with a black border on the outside may have been better. Still looks brown from a distance to me but that may just be me.

The aspects all wrong for me, too wide at top - too pointy at bottom. Personally don't like it purely for petty aesthetic reasons like that.
HOWEVER, I am of the opinion that the club could release the greatest crest in the world and it'd get slated for not been the old one.

What Heathside said, plus I thought I'd leave this quote from the designer.....
Lead creative Gareth Payne said: “It was a great honour to be involved in creating the new club badge for a team that’s had an incredible season after an amazing run in the FA Cup and now promotion in the league.
“As a football fan it’s been the dream project to work on as I know how important an identity is to a football club and its fans.”
So Gareth, that being the case, did it never occur to you to ask the club's fans about this important identity?

I get the feeling this is one of those cases where the club said we want exactly this and the designers did it without trying to ease them in the direction of something similar but far better. The old badge is pretty much timeless, this feels horribly dated from day one, it instantly feels like it needs replacing with something more modern. Not something I'd heard anyone say about the old badge.

I don't like it and I think the club missed a trick here by not involving supporters. You have to be joking! This thread is already up to three pages with opposing views. If there ever were a supporters' consultation, we should appoint just two people to represent us - I nominate nws and DaveU, who should cover all possible angles...
