Rumour has it we are playing Gillingham. Fine, or maybe not. Am sure the competition had some value back in the day, but when there is just one league side in the county, plus a NL side that many dispute to be in the county at all, why do we bother? The situation is not unique to Kent either - I remember when I was growing in Notts, we had a similar trophy, with Forest in the first division and Notts County and Mansfield in the old fourth. There were local bragging rights then, but really? Since then of course, we have the League Cup, plus other strange incarnations with Premier U21 sides playing FL teams. Why? To generate money, I suppose, except the bigger clubs already have plenty. Non league clubs already have the FA Cup and Trophy, plus the Vase for lesser mortals, so why doesn't somebody reinvent the Kent Senior Cup, so it has real meaning for those taking part? If it is felt that additional games have some value, there must be better alternatives. For example, a 'european' type affair between the unsuccessful teams making the play offs in the NLS and NLN. A little round robin and or knock out type cup might be a lot more interesting than most pre season friendlies we have to endure. There again, with all the youth, U23, U18, etc competitions, plus the inevitable congestion caused by bad weather cancellations later in the winter, do we actually need any more games? Probably not, and certainly not the Kent Senior Cup. Time to move on.

There are a handful of games I leave the Town End on the final whistle, safe in the knowledge I’m half a mile down the river before the away fans emerge. If I was attending this one (I’m not), I’d be using street smarts to avoid trouble.

Weird - they've had one of the best starts to a season in years. Any chance they might be about to self-destruct?

Had a habit of getting a goal and then taking off all his strikers and shoring up the midfield to try and sit on it. Seemingly quite effective in terms of results but horrible to watch.

Up here in West Yorks, the equivalent competition to the KSC is largely - but I'm sure politely - avoided by major clubs. There are 29 clubs in the competition and the most senior club in this year's competition is FC Halifax Town. Last season the KSC had 24 teams, with a third of those playing at step 7 or higher, whereas up here, this year's competition everyone - except 'fax - are step 8 or lower. Last season's final was between (then) 7th level Liversedge (my nearest local non-league team - yes I was following three teams last season and they all got relegated!) and 9th level Campion AFC, which is basically a club centred upon a leisure centre. Campion AFC (and underdogs by league position) won. Up here the competition is alive and kicking and gives clubs close to grassroots the chance to dream of silverware at the end of a season.

As someone who's 'other' clubs are West Ham and Carlisle, I always relied on Maidstone to ensure that the 'trebble relegation' never happened. So, recent seasons have been quite stressful!

Anyone going to this? Feels like the club have made us purposely difficult on what should be a full house. Teams in form. I’ll not go as I haven’t been able to get a ticket
