Started ok but ran out of ideas a bit. They’ve looked ok too, no better than us. Although they are the better side so far tonight.
We need to win that midfield battle

They definitely look the most dangerous going forward, but we've really worked hard to nullify them. First time I've seen our new goalie and I'm VERY impressed - if we'd had him last season, we'd still be in the NL!
At the moment it's got nil-nil draw written all over it - or Avely finally managing to get through our defence. Not really seen anything from us to think we could win it. Although you never know...

That was poor. Very one dimensional attack and they figured us out half way through the first half.
They looked pretty good though. Cynical when they needed to be. You can see they’re used to winning. No problem losing to a better team.
I’m sick of saying it but can we sign a horrible DCM for gods sake. We need to win control of these games.

Poor effort.
We could have played all night and not scored.
Expected more.

Not really worth the admission money. Not enough creativity, pretty ordinary up front Defence good enough but didnt win enough midfield battles. George still needs a couple of new faces if Stones are going to be serious play off contenders. Not on this showing.

Carried 2 players tonight.
No options on the bench
Aveley are a solid team who know how hold on to 1 - 0 leads.

Hope the old lady was OK. Nice that a steward helped her all the way round the ground and got her a chair and medical assistance.
As for the game, they were better, we were predictable.

Glad I missed it and even gave up on Stoneslive before the end. That is two poor home games in a row, while we were not that great in the first one either. Good that we showed character in a couple of away games, but as others have already said, we are lightweight in key areas. Like to think Corne and Greenidge would make a difference, but how long before they are back?

So so poor tonight. Do not even remember their keeper making a save. Our attacking play is awful. Just kick it long and hope. What is George coaching them during the week. The squad is so weak. Just look at the bench. Any news on our injured players and when they are likely to return as there has been no communication on this as usual. Club is going backwards. No chance of playoffs with this squad. 8 games, no clean sheets. Investment required in new players. New striker, midfielder and a wide player required. Not looking forward to this weekend at all.

Aveley were the better side both in attack and defence. Their passing and movement were causing us problems in the first half and our keeper kept us in it. Second half ws more even until they scored. After that they shut up shop very effectively and you could see why theu have only let in 5 goals. For much of the second half we bossed it with Chi causing them problems but it was like they had erected a wall in front of the goal and the keeper had hardly anything to do. There was an appeal for a pen but it was not convincing. Best chance fell to the head of Levi and he should have scored but it went over the bar. Of the 5 subs 4 were this or last year academy players so George did not have much that might change the game.
Very fast and enjoyable game with both teams playing good passing football. Aveley deserved the win but if everyone had been fit and available it might have been a different result. If we keep playing like that we will not lose many games

It was NS vs NL. Aveley have obviously spent a bit on their side and are aiming to go up. I was quite impressed in the first half, we defended very solidly and Covolan made some cracking saves - he has that uncanny ability the best goalies have of completely canceling the momentum of the ball, apparently without effort, his positioning is also superb. He almost single-handedly kept us in the game in the first half and there wasn't much he could do about the goal.
Overall, I was impressed with George's signings, there's a lot of individual talent in that side, and you couldn't fault their effort and determination. But Aveley played as a team and we didn't. They attacked as soon as they got the ball, each player knew where the other players were and very few passes were wasted, players moved into space straight away, ready to recieve the ball. It was a well-oiled machine. We had our moments, but it was boys v men a lot of the time. They were also cynical, cheating bastards. But that seems to go with the territory for sides on the way up.
And we could pretty much have played all night and still not have scored.
I was disappointed to lose, but not exactly surprised, and I liked a lot about George's new team. But, 8 games in, we should be playing better than we do, the team still feels like a work in progress. I think we'll do OK against most NS teams, and maybe make the play-offs, but, without another couple of players, and/or George getting the team to gell better, we aren't going to be going up this season. (Not that that worries me!)
The officials were, of course, shit, but that almost goes without saying in the NS...

Aveley have obviously spent a bit on their side and are aiming to go up. The thing is, they haven't spent big, Aveley aren't known for throwing money around. We will have a bigger budget than them this season, heck we will have a bigger budget than most teams in this league.

Reminded me of that game against Billericay when they were at their height.
