I like to look back on good times and the bad times and it is 6 years ago today I was served with an eviction notice to leave my house of 35 years within 21 days. I did not go quietly and it eventually took them 58 days to prise me out and banish me to Tonbridge.Happy days!

It was a British legion property which transferred from my father to mother,I stayed on in te house as my mums carer until she died plus it made financial sense to live together. When she passed away,despite promising me a flat I was unceremoniously kicked out as I was not in the forces, this despite other non forces residents. The situation got nasty and when backed into a corner I came out fighting. The council eventually offered me Tonbridge or the street so Tonbridge it was,and it turned out to be a good move,I wouldn't want to live elsewhere now apart from the Lake District but you need money for that. |

It may be next to the Lake District and on the coast, but it's a pretty grotty part of the country. And with some pretty unsavoury people. Plenty of cheap property in Carlisle, but I couldn't cope with the lack of sun up there. |

Aspatria used to have a football team called Aspatria Spartans whom I visited many years back. The game against Kendal went to extra time and penalties causing me to get stuck there with no public transport to get back to Carlisle where I was staying. The Aspatria chairman found out and personally drove me back to the hotel at nearly midnight. Cockermouth used to be home to Jennings brewery who brewed Snecklifter one of my favourite ales. The last time i went there the whole town was flooded and part of a centuries old bridge was washed away. As for Snecklifter the last pint I had of that was in the pub just outside North Ferriby fc when we played there,not even sure if the ale even exists anymore. |
