Our bench consisted of a keeper, 3 defenders and 3 midfielders. Poleon away on international duty, Bingham paternity leave.

When you are 11 v 10 after 6 minutes and only have 1 shot on target in 90, which dribbled to the keeper from 12 yards, we have trouble at both ends. A bit like having projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhoea.

Cambridge City are set to play their first game at a home stadium on November 30. They have been absent from the city for 11 years. I'm very pleased that things are on the up for one of the friendliest clubs I have ever visited.

I'm very pleased that things are on the up for one of the friendliest clubs I have ever visited. They'd have to go some to be less friendly than Cambridge United! Went to Cambridge City twice, first time my mate was running the line so i ponced a free ticket. Second time, same mate but this time just to watch the game. We just made it to the ground at 12.30 before all the warning lights went haywire on the dashboard. As we were not on a breakdown service we asked th CC chairman if he knew a local mechanic and within seconds he was on the blower to his no.1 son who arrived to have a look. We left it with him and went to enjoy the match. After the game he handed the keys back and said it was sorted, he didn't charge for labour and gave us cost price on the new parts. He charged just £38 saving my mate about £120 in labour charges. The chairman chucked in some free sausage and mash as well.

I only went there once, to experience centre half Tony Paris playing at centre forward. And do you know what? It didn’t work, 0 - 0, Southern League, 1973. The previous match we drew 0 - 0 with Margate in the SL Cup. The one following we drew at home with Tonbridge in the league; 0 - 0. Next we lost at home to Dartford 1 - 2, then away to Tonbridge it finished 0 - 0, before drawing at home with Telford 0 - 0. Relegation beckoning? No, we finished just in the top half. Robbie Stepney was manager.

This echoes many a club up and down the country. Last time I went Seaham Red Star they held a bucket collection to pay the ref as only 18 people turned up.
