Blackburn were the original bankrolled club buying success and a stadium way too big for them. It’s a town with a growing demographic who have no interest in football. Despite being third in the table the ground is only half full. So we really don’t have much to learn from Blackburn about football finances.

4,000 holes in Blackburn.
Which is a lot. Enough to fill the Albert Hall, apparently.
Happy Christmas!

To compare us with Blackburn is stupid. They were a Premier League team 20 years ago in the football hotbed of England. Since when has Kent been a incubator of Premier League football teams. Your narratives are as clunky as those drafted by the FBI and don't stand up to the scrutiny of daylight as by the next day 18 different people have found 17 different holes in them.

At least we've had some sort of Christmas miracle. Those silly posts claiming Hak only had until Boxing Day to turn the corner with results or he was a goner. Well here we are on xmas eve, still in the mire, and its all gone very quiet on the 'SACK HAK' front. Quite right too imo. The nonsense of demanding his dismissal has about as much chance of succeeding as nurses and paramedics getting paid what their worth. No miracle Dan. If we had the money and set up and ability to stay an NL side and were hell bent on avoiding the drop as I fit one was hoping then Haks record this year would have meant a Christmas sacking. However Oliver’s sobering Xmas message made it quite clear we dont have the money and set up for NL and ate punching above our weight and therefore are unlikely to be able to replace Hak. Also as an NLS championship winning boss we may well need him near year if we get relegated. Not a miracle just an acceptance of reality.

You can get a ticket (seat) at Ewood Park to watch Blackburn vs Middlesbrough on Thursday for £20. Thats a team pushing for promotion in to the Premier League. To get a seat at one of the worst clubs in the National League (Maidstone) costs MORE !!! It really is ridiculous. According to Google, Maidstone has a population of 175,000. Blackburn is at 154,000. Does this mean if Maidstone were in the Championship with a bigger stadium and had ticket prices at around £20, we would be pulling in 14,000 fans like Rovers do? With Maidstone being a larger town, you'd like to think so. Plus Blackburn is only a few miles from Burnley, Blackpool, Preston, Wigan, Bury, Rochdale and Accrington so has plenty of local clubs to compete and share fans. We have next to nothing in comparison so maybe 20,000 fans would be possible. A cash boost is the only way to grow at this stage. The current owners have reached their full potential it seems. Also another thought, with the club being back for 10yrs now, surely there will be a constant flow of new fans now. Both my Children are interested and have been to the Gallagher, aged 4 and 6. So surely this happens more and more, 1 fan makes 2 or 3 fans and so on. With the club being back in the town for a decade, there must be a lot of new fans turning up as the months go by. And the population of Maidstone is expanding very rapidly at the moment. Our gates should be expanding at roughly the same rate, but, if you look back at the attendances, the pattern is clear. As the club progressed, its gates increased. Then, as it went through cycles of success and (ahem) not so successful, gates rose and fell - with very little real-term increase. The club needs to do some pretty active PR to get new people in - leafletting, advertising, special prices, etc. But none of this will work if the new people turn up and see the sort of crap we're dishing up at the moment. My first game was a dour, but hard-fought draw with Gillingham - I was used to 1st Division football at UP, but I was impressed enough with Maidstone to try a league game the following Saturday - and I'm still here 42 years later. But what if we'd played like a bunch of school boys and been stuffed by Gillingham 0-3? As for seats - never mind the cost, they're are next to impossible to get on match days! We'd help our future gates a lot if we could offer people seats. This isn't the 70s, people expect not only to be entertained (Google that word if you've only watched us this season), but also to be able to sit in comfort while being entertained. The club's first non-playing priority should be to get that riverside stand built. And I believe Blacburn is also fairly close to that other place where they have a couple of decent teams. What's it called? Machester? Something like that... So you've watched 22 seasons then?

Personally I find the poisonous barbs and constant criticism to be hurled at Hak, to be disgusting.
It is all so offensive.

I agree with you Reg
But it says much more about the abusers than Hak himself

Well i hope oldboy is right and that supporters accept the reality.
Al we can do is get behind the club, the management team and the players.
If some people dont want to do that then please follow another club.

Back to back wins and the moaners will quickly be muted.
Starting with Dags at home would be good.

People still banding about the “we don’t have the money or set up to stay an NL side” myth. This is not true. What is true is that we have spent money poorly, played poorly a lot of the time, and made mistakes. It’s a sport and we have not done well. Had we spent the budget better, we would be higher up and the doom and gloom merchants would be quiet. We can stay in this league with our structure. We just need to execute better. It’s a sport and teams don’t just miraculously finish mid-table due to a certain budget or set-up.

Of course money is an issue but we chose to go three quarters time rather than part time like Wealdstone and a couple of others for whatever reason.
It means good non league players who have other jobs cannot afford to lose money daytime training.
Really we need to be proper full time or part time with a great part time squad budget.
Realistically i think we will stay up but there needs to be a rethink for next season re the model and investment. If teams like Wealdstone, Maidenhead, Woking etc can survive in this league there is no reason why we cannot too.
Bottom line is we kept too many of the NLS squad.

Poor recruitment and bad injuries must take a fair percentage of the blame for this season but I think the attitude of our players, bad team selections, bad or even non existent tactics and bad use of substitutionns must take an equal share of the blame. We really should be 6 or 7 pts better off than we are. As for the money side of things we are seeing now that both owners, who aren't getting any younger, realising their self made fortunes are disappearing into the great football chasm that is called greed and they need to put a stop to it. They set a reasonable budget probably hoping crowds would be nearer 3000 than 2000 but that has not proved to be the case as the glory hunters have dwindled away and the cost of living crisis has begun to hit people hard,I'll also put my hand up to say that I have only seen 2 home games this season and have no immediate plans to see another. The shortfall in support has in essence let the owners down and in their position I would think twice at throwing more money into the pot to stay up. There is nobody just going to walk in and buy the club any time soon and so I cannot see next years budget being much different to this years, it may even be less and another poor season, another relegation scrap, another few hundred off the gate and so on and so forth into a downward spiral. I don't care if we go down this season but for the sake of the club and fellow supporters I feel that it is imperative to stay up this year as relegation could set the club back 5 years. Daggers at home must be a win and and 3pts or I think the job of staying up will be beyond us.

Fair points swordy although I think you exagerate a bit on tactics, subs and attitude of players. Nobody gets it right all the time and you can always look back on a few matches that could have been turned if - - -. Not sure why you say it is imperative the club avoids relegation. Looking back to our seasons in NLS, they were pretty enjoyable.

Personally I find the poisonous barbs and constant criticism to be hurled at Hak, to be disgusting. It is all so offensive. Poisonous barbs? Come on! No one has criticised the man just his time as manager. Constant Crticism? It’s football! It’s only offensive if you CHOOSE to take offence.
