Just out of interest - this is what happened to the original 20 clubs:
Redditch - came bottom (20th) 1st season - never returned
Bangor - relegated 2nd season (20th) - never returned
Nuneaton - relegated 2nd season (18th) - returned a season later, but relegated because of financial problems five seasons later - returned 13 seasons later - relegated after 4 seasons - returned again after 9 seasons - relegated again after 3 seasons (2015)
Wealdstone - relegated 2nd season (19th) - returned a season later - Champions 3 seasons later (no automatic promotion) - relegated 3 seasons later - returned in 2020 (after 32 years out)
Gravesend & Northfleet - relegated 3rd season (20th) - returned 21 years later and stayed up for 8 seasons (highest place 7th) - relegated in 2010, but returned one season later, for just two seasons - returned again after 5 seasons and got to 6th and 8th, before relegation again after just three seasons
Leamington - relegated 3rd season (22) - never returned
Stafford - relegated 4th season - returned 3 seasons later, but relegated again after 10 seasons - returned briefly (2 seasons) in 2006
Barrow - relegated 4th season - reurned after one season, but relegated again next season - returned 4 seasons later, but only for three seasons - returned again 7 seasons later, but went into administration - returned for a third time 10 seasons later, but relegated after 5 seasons - returned yet again after 2 seasons - promoted to EFL after 5 seasons (short season - Covid)
Worcester - relegated after 6 seasons - never returned
Yeovil - relegated after 6 seasons - returned 4 seasons later - relegated again after 7 seasons - returned after 3 seasons - promoted to EFL after 6 seasons - returned to NL in 2019, after 16 seasons in the EFL - still in NL
Scarborough - first team to be promoted automatically to the EFL after 8 seasons - returned to NL in 99, after 12 seasons in the EFL - relegated after 7 seasons (went bust)
Bath - relegated after 9 seasons - returned after 2 seasons - relegated again after 7 seasons - returned brielfy (2 seasons) after 13 seasons - not returned since
Weymouth - relegated after 10 seasons - returned briefly (3 seasons) in 2006, and again (2 seasons) in 2020
Maidstone - promoted to EFL after 10 seasons - went bust after 3 seasons - returned briefly (3 seasons) in 2016, and again (1 season) in 2022
Barnet - promoted to EFL after 12 seasons - relegated back to NL 11 seasons later - promoted back to EFL after 4 seasons - relegated back to NL 9 seasons later - promoted back to EFL after 2 seasons - relegated back to NL 4 seasons later - still in NL
Boston - relegated after 14 seasons - returned 8 seasons later - promoted to EFL after 2 seasons - relegated to Northern Premier in 2008 due to financial mismanagement - not returned to NL
Altrincham - Champions for first two seasons - relegated after 18 seasns - returned for one season 3 seasons later - returned again after 5 seasons, relegated after 6 seasons - returned again in 2014 (2 seasons) - returned for 4th time in 2020 - still in NL
Kettering - never won the League, but came 2nd four times, and 3rd twice - relegated after 22 years - returned for just one season two seasons later, and again after 5 seasons out - relegated after 4 seasons (2012) - not returned since
Telford - second longest surviving club of the original 20 - relegated after 25 years when club went bust - returned (as AFC Telford) after 7 seasons, but relegated after two seasons - returned briefly again (1 season) one season later - not returned since
Northwich Victoria - longest surviving original member - relegated after 26 seasons for financial problems - returned one season later, but relegated after 3 seasons - not returned since
