Very sensible post. I think people forget the trouble Hadler had with freekick this time last year and how people got on his back. Mersin is doing fine in my book and we should get behind him until Hak decides to make a change. What ? This is August 2022 not October 2021. Hadler had a great season in goal. A key player in the best defence in the league. He proved himself time and time again. I recall his performances over all his matches, not just those where he under-performed. Personally i like them both and like sword i dont care who goes in goal as long as they do the job. I dont get all the anti-mersin sentiment among some of our fans.

I agree, Stones are fortunate to have two good keepers, although it is probably not just luck.
It's also very reassuring that when either is injured or lacking form, we have the other to turn to.
But it is not surprising that Tom Hadler has so many loyal supporters, over our outstanding 21/22 season, he proved his worth.

Highlights are up. Strangely poor quality - unless it's my PC...
Great performance from Deacon. Absolute striker goals from Corne (who nearly got a hat-trick). All round fantastic performance from the team, especially finishing like that in Saturday's heat - unbelieavable.
It shows how hard to read the names on shirts are that I've only just discovered that Elul has changed his name!

Must be your PC as I watched on my phone in the early hours and apart from a few bits of dodgy editing I thought they were a very good standard.

Saw a few people interested in some stats for the GK debate so thought I’d do some digging (apologies if I made any mistake compiling!)
Hadler played 31 games last season, conceding 27 goals and 13 clean sheets.
Mersin played 6 games last season conceding 10 goals and still hasn’t kept a clean sheet in 8 competitive games for the stones.
The pair played equal minutes in preseason with hadler conceding 1 and Mersin conceding 4.
I must say the stats stack up in Hadler’s favour. Both top goalkeepers, but these show why Tom hadler is stones number one for me.

Tbh the statistics don't surprise me at all because they simply confirm my non factual impressions. For sure statistics are not everything, but they do help to explain pretty convincingly why Tom Hadler is held in high regard and has the confidence of quite a few Stones supporters. Also a bit odd that the forum's Statistic Guru was not able to access this intelligence.

Number of games on its own isn't very conclusive.

The quality was so bad that I checked to see if YT hadn't somehow defaulted to lowest quality - but it hadn't, it was 1080. The picture should have been a lot better on that definition. As it was, details (like player's faces at distance) looked out of focus. The commentary sound was also poor. I hope this was just a blip. The 'normal'STV quality is far superior.

As for the keeper fuss. The fact is that Hak has opted to have two first-team keepers in the squad, and if he's going to keep both of them, he has to play both of them.
Perhaps there's a reason we've only seem Mersin so far, or perhaps that's just how Hak's chosen to do it? Wouldn't surprise me to see Haddler back tomorrow, but if we do, it won't be because of any 'stats'.
On a personal level, I've got no real problem with Mersin. I prefer Haddler because of his presence in goal and (especially) because of his distribution. But I'm not yet convinced of his shot stopping (nor am I of Mersin's). But we're only two games into a much harder division, so we really don't know how either of them is going to perform long-term.
Far too early for throwing toys out of prams.

Very fair summary jdl, my own humble views are similar on the merits of the two keepers. Like you I rate Tom Hadler that little bit more, probably for much the same reasons. Daveu rates the statistical comparison as inconclusive. He would !

To get this thread back on track I predict Maidstone to come from behind to win 2-1 with Sam Corne scoring 2 in as many minutes late on in the game and a crowd of 2245.

Well after listening to you whinge and whine like a Gills fan about the quality of STV highlights I went back and had another look and low and behold there was absolutely nothing wrong with them so I don't know what you were watching old bean. A trip to Specsavers may be in order.
