If JDL hasn't a clue, I doubt if anybody does, including Hak. I'm still trying to work out the Rendell/Randal confusion of last season...

ITS OFFICIAL "Lionel Messi released and available" He may have added something to the Stones squad a while ago, but probably at the wrong end of his career now. We have such a good looking team on paper, there is just no room.

So many new players to get our heads round. I hear that Roarie Deacon is meant to be a top signing. Anybody know what sort of position he plays, I'm guessing he's central midfield Attacking midfielder, has a goal in him. Plenty of experience. Featured for Stevenage alongside Simon Walton

Ibby Akanbi posted a photo on Instagram yesterday of him in training at the Gallagher. Haven't seen anything on here or the club socials about him being in the current squad, unless I've missed something, but assume he's staying?

Not on the squad list handed out at the open day, but didn't George introduce him to the crowd ? Confused.com !

Only going off that one post and it was definitely recent as there were new members of the squad in the background. Only thing I can think of if he's not staying is he's either just training with us while he finds a new club, or Hak is giving him time to prove himself in the new batch of players? No idea but sure we'll see something soon.

I think that's what caused some confusion as there were a couple of others who seem to be on trial that George did not introduce.

Rendall says he was in negotiations with Maidstone for some time. I assume he then left as he had a better offer. Perhaps Ibby was our fall back position as we could not afford both.

Rendall says he was in negotiations with Maidstone for some time. I assume he then left as he had a better offer. Perhaps Ibby was our fall back position as we could not afford both. It was ever thus. The unfortunate reality of trying to run a club sustainably - even one as successful as ours - is that there will always be a few clubs in whatever league we're in who have the money to poach the best players. We will always be having to play catch-up - trying to outdo the bank-rolled clubs by finding talent (and trying to keep them!) and by the skils of our manager in squad/team building and game strategies and tactics. Which means that, although we might have the odd season of success, most seasons will be also-rans, where money tells and we do OK, but just can't compete with the top three or four clubs. And then ultimately, if we do earn promotion, we can't afford to stay for long in the league above. But, what's the alternative? I can't believe any of us want to go back to the 90s and go through all that again. Fantastic as promotion into the FL was (for those of us who didn't fully realise the risks JT was taking), no one who went through the trauma of losing their club would ever want to endure that again. At the end of the day, I'd rather watch Maidstone play in the NS (or a future replacement for the NL) than pay the price of short-term 'success'. After all, for the vast majority of clubs, that's the reality - the odd season of dreaming of promotion, perhaps even achieving it for a few years, but mostly, just turning up to watch your club play every other Saturday and hoping for a win and some decent football. And perhaps that bald bloke down by the pitch-side heading the ball back again...

A totally reasonable point of view, but one with which I disagree. Stones are not in any way disqualified or ineligible from seeking to better themselves and aim for promtion to the National League. The NLS does not represent a natural home for the club or dictate a position from which the club must not rise above. Change forms a natural cycle in life events and it is better to aspire to better things than look backwards to achieve more modest aspirations. Living without risk is not an option. Luckily we have progressive and ambitious owners who have set their hearts on promtion to the promised land and keeping the club there until we are ready for the next forward step. Onwards and upwards is the aim and long may that continue to be the case.

Tell me how we can afford to get promoted (and stay in the NL) and I'm with you.
