Now here's a thing...
We beat the virus and got daily new infections down well below 1,000, but now they're up to 3,000 a day again.
At what point did we start wearing masks...

The concept of cycle threshold is very important 25 and below is contagious - don't worry about 40 and above.

Its nothing to do with masks, all the places where the virus can easily spread indoors you don't have to wear one. Cases started steadily rising again as soon as pubs, restaurants, gyms etc reopened and the government allowed everyone to fly around Europe to go on holiday.

What, so nothing to do with increased testing then?

Daveu - Also important is the viral load passed on by the Covid 19 positive person.

What, so nothing to do with increased testing then? Im sure increased testing is playing a part, but we were still testing a lot in June when we were down to just 500ish cases a day.

Cheer up you doom and gloom merchants the thing that really matters are deaths are down. So far. Anyway, they've already killed most of the more vulnerable - death rates are bound to go down, if you think about it, there's fewer people to easily kill...

My point was rather that we got the rate of infection down dramatically without masks, but, once mask wearing became commonplace, the infection rate started to go up again. There may be all sorts of factors involved there, but, from observation, things like hand washing, social distancing, etc are now taken a lot less seriously - I suspect because people feel protected by their masks. And yet, all the evidence shows that the sort of masks most people wear do NOT protect you at all. And, if masks are so good - how come we managed to get the numbers right down, and keep them down, [b}without[/b] masks? Mask wearing was the last desperate straw to cling on to for a government that was entirely out of ideas - and still is.

How often does this need to be said. Mask wearing is not about protecting yourself, it's about protecting others from possible infection by you, which it does by reducing the distance that airborne droplets spread from between 6 and 20 feet to a few inches.

With most of the blame is going on the 17-21 age group at the moment, when the season starts, the top/rear of the Genco stand may not be the safest place to be if you are over 55. Toilets probably best avoided too, though that has always been the case, methinks.

It should get better with the schools back and people who wanted to work at home forced back, under Johnson's keep commercial property prices high for wealthy investors scheme. Sorry lefty, snowflake, Liberal elite moment there... I meant Johnson's protect low paid staff in City centre scheme
