How can we play this badly and be 2-0? I suppose the answer is Matt McClure - and Big George. Other than that it's been a lot of running and hopeful punts, but not much else. If StA had a decent striker, we'd be losing. End of September now, two months in - I was hoping to be watching something a bit more enjoyable than this by now. Still, 2-0 is 2-0... Now its 4 - 0 and what hasn't changed is that George and Matt have played really well throughout. Pennell only weak link at the back but there-again I rate Johnson more. Classy 100% effort by Corney in midfield who has shown he is the real deal at this level.

Very poor first half, especially the first 20 minutes. Settled down a bit after the first goal which was a real cracker, the proverbial leap like a salmon. Second was a howler from the keeper but you have to have shots to force those errors and both Ibby and Matt aren't afraid of a shot from distance. Second half was much better with McClure and Corne in particular pulling the strings. Third goal was a real poacher's effort, McClure robbing the defender on the blind side and chipping the keeper. We continued to pressure them into errors at the back and the fourth duly arrived with Matt and a defender going for a cross, hard to tell from the stand who got the touch, but the keeper parried it to the middle of the box where Corne followed up to score. Definitely a relief to see Johnson come off the bench for the last 10 minutes or so as Pennell was far from convincing. Interesting interview from Hak on RK. Not happy that we eased off and thought we could have had 2 or 3 more in the last 10 minutes.

My first game for a month and the first half was pretty shocking. No composure on the ball, the difference being but two brilliant moments from Mclure. Second half much better, thrilled for Corne to get a goal, he really deserves that. Great hatrick from a top quality striker and good midfield performance in the second 45.
Only negative on the game for me was Pennell, a real real liability at center half. A great move from management to take him off with 15 to go to preserve the clean sheet.

We won today because of key moments and as plastic passion would say a#$%hole. First half we weren't brilliant but there was one of the best ever last ditch challenges ever seen at the Gallagher from big George, some brilliant effort and chasing down from Sam Corne leading to our second goal some good finishing from Matt and although we were guilty of some sloppy passing at the back and in midfield this was mostly due to St Albans pressing which resulted in them leaving gaps at the back which I thought we always looked like we might exploit. Overall we were better in both penalty boxes than them too, how many games over the last couple of seasons have we played well but failed to win because of glaring defensive errors and poor finishing? Today this wasn't the case yet people are still complaining !!!

Not sure who this Sam Come is,but Sam Corne was very effective for us today, Pennel was the total opposite really poor, cannot recall another game where we won 4-0 yet there was such a limited reaction like today.

I believe this is the first ever home league hat trick at the Gallagher, correct me if I'm wrong.

Not there, but if we win 4-0 playing not that we'll, would look forward to games when we do! Instead had to go to Birmingham, where drinks are cheaper and the young ladies best described as 'sturdy', which may have something to do with the size of meals served... Bit like Medway then. Anyway, well done Stones. Having Johnson back should be a real bonus, especially with McClure scoring for fun at the other end.

I predicted 2-0, got that wrong. I predicted 2000 in attendance, got that wrong. On the good side though, McClure apparently can't hit a barn door, luckily the net gets in the way so we don't need to find out. Other than the above, I was going to write something possitive but daveu beat me to it. I left the ground today feeling quite boyant and entertained.

I was disappointed to miss the game yesterday not having the strength to get out of bed let alone travelling but I am glad to see Mclure doing the business. I was impressed by him in the Sothend friendly and then disappointed when we seem to let him go. The final capture of his signature is the best piece of transfer business this club has managed in years. I noticed a few people mentioning the fans apathy towards winning 4-0 this will only change if and when we can beat one of the good teams which will hopefully happen soon.

There were some excellent individual performances from players yesterday but maybe 2 'stand out' efforts for not showing enough quality and influence. Imo Pennell is not looking to be the commanding type of centre back to partner George in the centre of defence. Johnson looks a much better player to me despite his 'inferior pedigree'. The other player from the starting X1 yesterday who still looks a shade lightweight is Khan, who just doesn't stamp his mark on the game consistently. Nice touches at times but in and out the game.

4-0, 4-1, 2-2, 4-1. The last four home games. Yet still we are not satisfied? In the dark depths of last season, such scores were unthinkable. Ok, different times and, especially, different opposition - but also a completely different Maidstone team. Am sure there will be times, like Dorking and Wealdstone, where the team doesn't function, or the opposition are simply just better. We almost scrambled an undeserved draw at Wealdstone, but Man City lost at Norwich, then put eight past Watford, while Liverpool got lucky at the Blades yesterday. That's football and looking at the bigger picture, Stones are coming together with four strong home results in a row, a first eleven capable to matching most teams at the his level, plus a subs bench that offers the chance to change the way we play if needed. August was about as much as any of us dared to hope for. September a bit patchy, but with some decent results. Wonder what October will bring?
