Here we go again. Why is it not possible to discuss something on here that isn't 100% manic positive without being jumped on? I loved the fact that we won 4-0, and yes it's wonderful and so much better than last season (but we are in the NS...), and I want to have JS2's child, etc, etc. But, FFS, does that mean everything's fine and there's nothing to talk about? Language. When we go up to the NL with this squad then we will add strength to the team. Steady as she goes. COYS I don't particularly want to go up but I have a feeling that we could. This team isn't the finished article yet but we are sweeping sides away without playing well. When we reach our true potential we could annihilate some teams by cricket score proportions starting next week by thoroughly thrashing Hitchin Town. We have the defence we have dreamed of and players, plural, who can score goals and we haven't had that for years. We are already 9th way above where I thought we would be at this stage with almost 3/4 of the season still to go.

Blimey sword, what have you been taking cause it must be pretty good. Before you get too carried away with us thrashing teams and getting promoted, how about a reality check ? We are just 9th in the league and 12 points behind the top club. Fact. Things are looking good but not that good !

Looking at the fixtures before the season I expected a new team to be lying around 15th at this point, around about 11th by xmas and a play off push after xmas so we are well ahead of my schedule at the moment. Things could turn bad but I think after 3 poorish years it's time for a happy one and I do think we have a good play off chance. Can we win the league? Unlikely but 12 pts is not a huge gap at this stage of the season we have seen such gaps closed down before. I have had a very pessimistic week and despite still being ill I want to end it on a positive note.

Bit paranoid there pal. Can't see where anyone's jumped on anybody to be honest. Just people expressing honest opinions of the game. Just check back on this thread.

Thought we did well after the first 20 minutes but SAC were pretty ordinary, at best.
Pennell's fundamental problem is that he's playing on the right hand side when he's a very left-footed player - it's not quite as bad as Seth playing left-back, which was painful to watch as he tried to get everything back on his right foot but Pennell was clearly uncomfortable. Johnson will be back in the side unless not fully fit.

I enjoy watching football that plays out from defence if the personnel are good enough to do so, George regularly does it and looks composed and assured. You have to be a good defender first and good on the ball after. I don't think Pennell is good at being a defender to be honest so any football he tries to play is always going to lead to a mistake or two.

Wow. Almost makes me feel sorry for Pennell. Very rare for a manager to come out in the Press and so publicly slate a player.
Tbf I thought Pennell looked dodgy from the start and didn't really understand what Johnson was doing on the bench.

Pennell is very left-footed and has looked uncomfortable playing on the right. I think his main role will be as back-up for George & Chesmain.

That doesn't really explain his reluctance to head the ball. Couldn't believe the number of time he let it bounce, particularly after the break, and ended up being bailed out by George. Maybe he was simply trying to get the ball down and play, and that was what JS meant by trying to play like Bobby Moore.
