I will not jump to their defence but nobody envisaged Covid back then and the retail sector was hit so hard that many outlets, especially small ones, just could not recover. To be honest with the rip off rents being charged by leaseholders I'm surprised every retail unit on Tonbridge High Street isn't empty.

The EU countries also had covid and were not going to get the wonderful benefits of brexit (and its lowering of prices) to counteract it. Strangely, things were not worse on the inflation front. commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/sn02794/#:~:text=UK%20inflation%2C%20as%20measured%20by,up%20from%203.1%25%20in%20November. Weird. It's almost as the much muted 'lower prices' claim was a lie.

From 29th march, Maidstone Metrobank are only going to be open 09.30 to 17.00 weekdays! This is no good to me,as I work ten to six ,three miles from the town centre. They told me in an email, that the nearest branch open on a Saturday (from 11am to 4pm) is Bexley! This is no good to me,as it's in the ULEZ zone,so I would have to pay that,as well as for fuel to get there!
When Metrobank started,it sold its self on being the future of banking, open in the evening and Saturdays and Sundays,so they were more accessible then the traditional banks....

They are gonna destroy Maidstone in the same way that Maidenhead council have destroyed what once was a nice town. When we went last year I could've cried at what they've done to the place.

I wonder what London council will be buying it up to house their trouble makers? Still, it will do the local economy good,if the shops start stocking up on stab vests!

I walked down Week Street yesterday for the first time in at least 6 months and counted a staggering 4 shops/casinos dedicated to slot machines within 100 yards. These places and machines are the spawn of the devil and are all set up to take your money time after time after time. No wonder there is so much trouble with punters up the pole having been fleeced of all their money. What is the council playing at allowing so many gambling shops in the town centre.

The Sunday Times has just named Folkestone as the best place to live in South East England. Considering what a shit hole it was not that long ago, that is quite an achievement. The judges didn't just look at the harbour regeneration, but considered things like schools, broadband speeds, green spaces and transport links, like the high speed trains to London. No doubt the lack of litter was noticed too and helped the town beat the likes of Sevenoaks, Wadhurst, Hove and Farnham. So, if Folkestone can turn itself from a Sow's Ear into a Silk Purse, then so can Maidstone. Extract the digit people. And while you are at it, do something about the absofuckinglutely APPALLING litter situation. That, or designate certain areas like the junction between the A228 and M2 as landfill, because it won't be long before it is impossible to drive through that way.

After Coventry away, I walked through Week Street at silly o’clock on Tuesday morning. The only signs of life were the “casinos” open all night, and a small crowd stood outside Social Chill Bar. Who are these night people?

Got two family members have recently bought property in Folkestone. One a young professional. The other a downsizer. Not sure it would suit me.

My sister lives in Sandgate which is the next village down from Folkestone therefore I spend a lot of time in Folkestone Town centre and harbour areas. I love the place ,lots to see and lots to do and the regular 102 bus runs to Dover one way and right down to Lydd the other way. Great train links and social disturbances always seem to be minimal when I visit. Pubs and restaurants galore and plenty of live music plus the best fish and chips shop in Kent and came 2nd in the UK. Excellent during summer months though a little Bleak in winter. You can do Maidstone in 40 minutes on the motorway, 30 if they got rid of the damned 50mph zone. I would agree that it's a great place to live.

It's amazing how time changes things, before I moved to Tonbridge 6.5 years ago I used to regularly drink in pubs and shop and walk around the town centre and even on a quiet day i would meet or greet a dozen or more people that i knew. Yesterday I visited four pubs, three shops and hobbled my way around much of the town centre and there was nobody, not one recognisable face in amongst a fairly busy town centre. Where has everyone gone?
