I'm reminded of the old joke - How do you become a millionaire?
answer; be a billionaire and buy a football club

I really do not understand people who call it ‘an artificial playing surface’ as it does in the article. It is an ignorance. It is much a real pitch as is grass or mud (Bishop Stortford) or sand (old Havant and W)

The grass is artificial but the pitch is as real as any other pitch.

OK, I love a bit of pedantry, but what exactly would an artificial pitch look like?
By definition, it wouldn't be a pitch. So what would it be? A dustbin, a shoe, the sky, last week's curry...
Is it possible that we are surrounded on all sides by artificial pitches, but don’t know it?
Truly frightening.

Defined as: 'Artificial Pitch means a field of play (as that term is defined in the Laws of the Game) that is not a Grass Pitch.'

So a pitch (by definition) doesn't exist without its covering - no grass or 3g (or anythiung else) = no pitch. There's just a rectangular hole in the middle of the stadium. All we need now is hbs to pitch in on this (see what I there?) and we could have a full-blown classic ding-dong...

So Wimbledon is the only true grand slam tennis tournament, because all the others are played on artificial courts?
