This may sound bizarre but i find supporting Maidstone more fun when we are up against it.. that is when you realise how much the club means to everyone and who sticks by it. Not an easy ride but... It does sound bizarre! I missed the Wilderness Years, but I had the Barry Fry Season, and I did NOT enjoy that for one tiny second! It does sound bizarre but there was a togetherness and common purpose in the wilderness years that does not seem to be there as much now. I guess the fact that off field activities were generally overshadowing on-field activities had a lot to do with that. Having said that, I even remember Tonbridge fans commenting how they wished their support could be more like ours because we, as a complete end of the ground, were chanting and clapping our team off even tough they were losing at HT.

Dave that is a little strong... well rude actually! This forum is for fans to talk about what we all Love, that being Maidstone United. I and others respect the “Old boys” who followed the club through the “Dark days” blar... But can we now all agree to stop banging on about it please..? Let’s live in the here and now! There is going to be nagative comments and positive, but when things are not going well the negative is going to be more prevalent. Jay has done a very good job getting us to this league! We were a massive Ryman South club, a huge Ryman Premier club, a Big Conference South club and now an average National League club. I believe this is our level and as a set up we should be pushing top half of the table around about 10th. We as fans are not just fans but customers as we pay good hard earnt money (for some) to watch our team. Too much emphasis is put on how many games a fan attends or how far he/she drives to away games. Some of us work shifts so physically can’t get to some games and others can’t afford it. So living in the here and now we see a team that is disorganised and not winning, we see our hero Jay down trodden and apparently out of ideas! Yes of course some people think Jay should go, any team in any league would consider removing a manager that has not won for this many games. That doesn’t mean he should go or that I want him to. The team at the moment are playing as 11 disconnected individuals with no apparent game plan. It’s either errors costing us goals our end or lack of ideals at the other. Against Barrow there was probably 4 players who put in a shift! These players are not builders and plumbers anymore, they get paid to play football maybe twice a week so we expect them to run their arses off for 90 minutes and concentrate for that period on doing their job! That is not happening. That is Jay’s job to fix. There is no way this club should be going down with the players we have in the squad, we are riddled with former league players, we have a reasonable player budget and turn a profit every year! We don’t expect promotion, but we should expect our team to put in a shift every game and go down fighting if we must lose a game and look like we have lost if we have rather than walk off the pitch smiling. Fleetwood have risen just like we would like to see Maidstone rise, but have just sacked their manager due to poor results in league One. It does happen and let’s hope Jay turns the corner soon. We will all be on here many years after Jay and the current squad have gone, no doubt talking about the dark old days when we struggled in the National League an got wet and cold at Bromley... This is all very nice but were you at Eynsford away? If not, shush

Stayed off this board after the game for the very reason that I knew the whining numpties would be out in force, mainly it would appear, newbies who've only ever known the relative success of the last few years. Well if this is your behaviour at the first sign of trouble the club would be better of without your fair weather support so bugger off back to your glory hunting premier league clubs. What a bunch of ignorant whining knob heads. I understand that the Club has a vacancy in its supporter recruitment department which i believe that you are an ideal candidate

People are questioning Jays attitude in the after match interview, why was he so low etc? It;s cos he bloody cares, his team has played badly and lost and he knows that. What would you rather he do, stand there grinning and say 'shit happens'?, He is feeling this more than any of us and if you think that because you spend 15 quid to watch you know better than Jay, you are sadly mistaken. I for one believe he has more than earned the right for some support after all he's done to get this club where it is. Judge him at the end of the season but until then give him the support and get behind the team. Those of you that won't even clap them off at the end, do you think they went out there to lose, do you think they are not feeling it too? If you can't support us through the bad times then you don't deserve to share the good times. I don't suppose Jay reads any of this but in case he does, the majority of fans are still with you Jay, because we remember the REALLY bad times.

I didn't clap them off at the end because I was totally pissed off.
I was even more pissed off that most of them were too busy chatting to the opposition players to bother to acknowledge their own fans.

My theory is that we weren't really functioning all that well as a team even before the wheels came off, but the results masked this. I agree, somewhat. From the relatively few games I have been able to see this season , I don't think we were as good early on as the results suggested. But equally (maybe Saturday excepted) I don't think we are now as bad as the results suggest. I agree with fleetphil that a lot is about confidence. Team's often-times start winning after a manager has been sacked, not because he was suddenly making a negative contribution, but because it jars and changes the team psyche. Similarly last year we didn't turn things around just because DSY, Lewis & Prestedge single handedly (tripple handedly?) won lots of games, but because they raised the whole team morale. Hopefully some of our recent joiners will have the same effect. But coming back to things that imho are suspect now and were still suspect when we were good, they do I think come down to coaching. - Our positional play and movement off the ball (both in possession and without) is woeful and we very rarely seem to win "second ball".
- It's interesting that someone mentioned the Flisheuresc might of the throw ins from Barrows Number 3 (who incidentally was encroaching on the pitch for every throw in in the first half) - I remember commenting last year that I didn't see us score all year from a Flish throw and neither, despite the formation dancing, do I think I saw us score from a corner. It seems to me (again from more limited observations this year) that we just don't score from corners or crosses into the box (except on the break).
So, whilst I DO think there is room for improvement 'behind the scenes' I wouldn't personally be even considering replacing Jay at this stage, but it is clear that we need some kind of shock to the system to change things and restore a bit of confidence. I would be pretty sure that Jay's team talks don't involve the phrase "just hoof it up the pitch" but when confidence goes on the pitch that can feel like the safe option. Keep the faith - what's the worst that could happen? (Shorter journeys, the ability to have a beer whilst watching the game & the chance to rebuild for a return with a greater bank of knowledge and a head-start on infrastructure.)

We did have a time machine because I got on what looked like a coach at Mildenhall's ground and seconds later I was awoken to get off in Maidstone.

RESPONSE FROM JAY SAUNDERS TO THOSE 'SUPPORTERS' WANTING HIM OUT (kentonline)
The support of Maidstone's owners and fans is fully appreciated as Jay Saunders bids to come through his toughest time in football.
Boss Saunders is working closely with Terry Casey and Oliver Ash to halt a 16-match winless run and retains their full backing.
Some fans think it's time for a change but Saunders, coming up for seven years as manager, still has big backing on the terraces.
He said: "Listen, it's a horrible period. I've never been through anything like this and as a manager it's a lonely place.
"Obviously I'm getting plenty of stick and I suppose rightly so, we're not winning games and it sits with me.
"I'll keep working hard, I always have, I've not shied away from anything all through my career, until I'm told otherwise.
"It's not nice, it affects your whole family, my wife, my kids get upset, so it's not a nice thing but it's my job, it's football.
"I know what I'm in for. I know what it's like being a manager.
"I was always aware when I walked into the job that one day you leave, whether that's you go on to better things or you get sacked.
"That's football and as long as you can understand that, that's fine, and the majority of supporters have been great.
"I think they know it doesn't hurt anyone more than me.
"I'm the one that has the sleepless nights and will keep working hard to get it right and hopefully we will.
"I'm a big boy, I'll keep going and see what happens."
Owners Casey and Ash are fiercely loyal to Saunders after years of success at the Gallagher Stadium.
Casey met with the manager on Monday to offer his support.
Saunders said: "Listen, they've always been supportive and they'll continue to be so.
"Obviously I'm sure they're not happy, we're not winning games and we're in a run that we can't seem to end but they've said if there's anything we can do then let us know.
"They've been good and I'll continue to talk regularly with them."
It doesn't get any easier for Maidstone with Tranmere the visitors to the Gallagher on Saturday.
Rovers are smarting from a 4-1 defeat by leaders Macclesfield on Tuesday night but remain Saunders' tip for the title.
He said: "They're right up there, they're still my fancied team to win the league.
"I think they're a very good side but if the players can't get motivated for that then I don't know what.
"I've got faith in these lads to get us out of trouble but we need something to turn for us and we need it to happen soon."
MUST ADMIT TO FEELING A BIT SICK ABOUT SOME OF THE NEGATIVE POSTS ON THIS THREAD CALLING FOR JAY'S HEAD
THE ARTICLE IS RIGHT THOUGH, JAY STILL HAS BIG BACKING ON THE TERRACES, WHERE IT COUNTS !
ALWAYS A BIT OF A WORRY WHEN ANY OWNERS FEEL THEY HAVE TO DECLARE THEIR SUPPORT FOR THE MANAGER
BUT THIS TIME AT LEAST I'M SURE THEY REALLY MEAN IT

I'll take issue with Jay's statement, I have sleepless nights too, so he's not the only one.

It would be nice to see a few more clichés I thought his clichés were good, but his platitudes were better....

It's a shame some of our fans who stuck by the club through the dark days of Sittingbourne and Ashford don't remember the calls for Jim Ward to be sacked and when he was eventually given the bullet he had not got anywhere near 16 League games without a win. But let's blame the newbies anyway.
