Well the story seems to be reaching its inevitable conclusion with an official announcement likely sooner rather than later. (the only very slight doubt is encouraged by violent swings in the bookies odds over recent days) But they can't all be so wrong and I speak as another Jay Saunders fan who will be saddened to see him go. Wishing him the very best for his future on a personal basis, although I still think he's taking a hell of a risk ! It is a risk but who is to say if he ever gets this chance again? I hope he stays I really do but would completely understand if takes the chance offered. Exactly Another season like the last and league clubs might not come knocking again.....so its understandable if he has taken the job.

Thank god if its true after 5yrs watching hump it football anyone who knows how to play fast passing football on the deck will do. May even renew my season ticket now. Don't worry, if some of our fans get their wish and we get watt as manager it will be hump it anywhere football. I'm taking you missed a number of games last season though as we certainly weren't humping the ball aimlessly in every game there were a number where we got the ball down and played good football.

Yeah i really don't get why so many people want Watty as manager?? he has no experience at this level and his only manager job was at Margate where he just signed his mates/our old players.....also to miss the playoffs with the squad he had was pretty poor as well. People moan we don't have enough experience, yet wanna appoint someone with very little experience & give him the biggest budget we had since re-forming......makes zero bloody sense.

Their's no way Watty will become our number one. He's far to inexperienced and perhaps the wrong temperament however iam sure he will continue and become a decent number two too our new manager.

Watty must be wondering what on earth is going on. It was very much a personal call and invitation from Jay, that encouraged Steve to sign up. Jay Saunders had clearly signaled a shake up of the squad and the back room staff A new manager will surely want to handpick the new signings and decide who he works with as support What will Watty's future be if we are to have a new management regime ? Hopefully the club will issue a statement to clear up what is happening today

Am finding all the hubris hard to understand. No logic in Jay moving to Macclesfield. Will not be big money, nor any security, so why go all that way on a wing and a prayer when things are far more secure here? He doesn't strike me as impulsive, so unless there has been stuff going on behind the scenes we don't know about, why move, and certainly why move in this way? As for bookies, their odds are more based on how many people are betting than any sort of certainty and how many folk will be betting on JS going to Macc? All very implausible, but as Greaves used to say, it's a funny old game and we should not be surprised by anything these days...

Maybe Jay feels this is too good an opp to turn down? After so long at Maidstone he might feel he has taken club as far as he can as 3G stops promotion etc etc. If he does not go he may always wonder what if. If he wants career as a manager at higher level this could be a stepping stone. Not everyone in life settles for a 'secure' job. Having said all that...i hope he stays.

Would Jay Saunders be driving around Bearsted this morning in a marked Stones van if he was off to Macclesfield ? Don't know the answer, just gets stranger and stranger ! (fairly sure it was Jay, not able to be 100%, cause driving and viewing through rear view mirror)

Also, bearing in mind he's just signed a new contract, Macclesfield would need permission from the club to speak to him. Not sure where all the betting has come from but wouldn't put it past the bookies to throw in a random selection to see where it goes.

What Dave said. They wouldn't be able to understand his accent up there anyway. Non-starter.

From chief executive Bill Williams:
Over the past day or so, there has been rumour and speculation over the future of our manager Jay Saunders.
To put an end to that, I can confirm that Jay is committed to Maidstone United and will be continuing the role heβs had with the club since 2011.
We are all looking forward to what is going to be a very exciting season and Jay, along with his management team of Steve Watt and Harrison Grant, are busy preparing their pre-season programme and looking to add players to the existing squad.
