Great easy listening though JDL, check out ' Tweeter & The Monkey Man ' from the first album for some clever lyrics, or ' Not Alone Any More ' for a heart rending finale from Roy Orbison. When I was your age, young Pork, 'easy listening' was a musical insult! I agree with that, but now it appears to be ' trendy ' to be dubbed in that way.

There is nothing wrong with a bit of easy listening, give me Perry Como and Dean Martin over Ed (ginger tosser) Sheeran and Bruno f**king Mars any day of the week.

Definitions, definitions...
What exactly is 'easy listening'? To me it's more like MOR or even Musak/lift music, but if we're going to include Como. Martin, etc, I've got problems. Sinatra, for instance - is he 'easy listening'? Glen Miller? In the Mood is one of the best pieces of popular music ever written. And what about Gene Pitney or the Carpenters? Both recorded stuff that makes your insides curl, but listen to 24 Hours From Tulsa, and hear how Pitney sings the coda "And I can never, never, never go home again". And Karen Carpenter has a voice like no other, one of the best in the business - and if only her dominating bloody brother hadn't drowned everything in his awful schmaltzy arrangements, she would be recognised as such (and probably still be with us). She wasn't a bad drummer either!
As for Sheeran and Mars - it's a mark of just how low the bar is these days that such talentless shite is regarded as 'real music' when compared to the industrialised garbage and endless rap churned out by the 'music' industry.

I think it was taking Karen Carpenter off of the drums to front the band that destroyed her. She obviously had mental issues but taking g her from her beloved drums and making her do something she abhorred put her in an early grave. Heart failure from prolonged Anorexia may have been the official cause if death but in my opinion mentally tortured by her overbearing brother should have been listed as cause of death.

It is overlooked how good a drummer she was. Worthy of the Wrecking Crew and i agree could have been a happier as a drummer who did occasional backing vocals in sessions work then a front woman on stage

She tried to break away from her brother and actually recorded an LP of her own, without his involvement. But the bastard refused to allow it to be released - he claimed it wasn't good enough to go under the Carpenter name.
Those who have heard it (very few, as I don't think even bootlegs of it got out) say it wasn't very good, but that's not the point. By stopping her small attempt at independence, he effectively crushed her - and ended any possibility of her dealing with her mental problems (which were mostly him anyway).

I think its inevitable now that pubs will,in the next few weeks or so,be closed down again by these Tory Knobheads. A second blanket closure will completely kill off the pub trade for good. We may have to start a new thread entitled are there any pubs left open?🤬🤬🤬
