Wasn't she the Landlord / Landlady ? I don't know but I rarely use the place anyway but I have always found it a pleasant experience with good beer. My one & only visit there found a packed pub and a quiz night. Scared the s**t out of me to be honest …..

I think it's time you unburdened yourself of exactly what happened to scar you so deeply. You know you'll feel better for it...

Goachers to reopen the Little Gem in Aylesford as their third tied house.
When it opens it's about 15 minutes walk from from Aylesford railway station.
Or 155 bus from Maidstone:
17.50 (Arriva) 19.20 (Arriva) 20.25 (Nu Venture)
Returning from Aylesford:
20.59 (Nu Venture) 22.49 (Nu Venture)

It was a mystery how that pub ever managed to fail in the first place - wonderful building, excellent location, very popular. Rumour had it that the owner deliberately ran it down, but God knows why. All the best to Goachers for doing this. I think I may have just found a use for my bus pass!

Richard the landlord at the Druids Earl street has been goonered and has left immediately. The pub is temporarily being run by assistant from the Pippin.

It's been empty for years. The PO moved to Bank Street before eventually moving into WHS. I see that there is interest in the former Mothercare in Week Street becoming a hotel.

I guess the only reason it's not a Wetherspoons, is they already have two pubs in town. Maybe 'spoons could acquire it and use it as a training base for staff working in The Muggleton to give instruction on: * How to maintain & serve real ale. * How to operate a microwave. Just a thought ?

Just a thought ? My eldest worked there for a couple of years. He does not speak highly of it. I read a post on FB the other day claimimg that one of the reasons Wetherspoons are able to sell beer cheap (other than paying their staff SHITE wages) was that they buy up all the beer from the brewers that's about to go out of date.

Walked past the Swan for the first time in weeks the other day and saw the 'For Aution' sign for the first time. Looking terminal. Very sad.
On a more positive note, I walked past the Pilot on Monday and it looks very much like its old self (if a bit cleaner and tidier!), so it looks like the reopening is going OK. I would have popped in for a very welcome pint, but it's closed on Mondays! When did pubs start closing one day a week?!

Probably when self-employed landlords got tired of working 12 hours a day seven days a week for less minimum wage, on a night when nobody goes out.

Isn't the Bower Inn open evenings only?

Nope. Just an urban myth. The reason is the vast quantities in which they buy all of their products and a slight subsidisation from the huge mark up on their food. Out of date beer is nonsense peddled by local pub purists to try and put people off 'spoons.
