Who likes Shepherd Neame ? Cos the club has just agreed another 3 year exclusive deal. I like SN Master Brew and Spitfire, if it's properly kept, which it isn't in the clubhouse, going by the one time I tried it there. I remember a pint I had in the Dog & Gun in Boxley Road nearly 50 years ago, it was so smooth it almost slipped down in one; my favourite ever pint! Master Brew is also cheaper than colonic irrigation. |

Just seen an advert for a Halloween party in the Beach Bar in the Royal Star Arcade. Never heard of the place,can anyone shed any light on it.

Just seen an advert for a Halloween party in the Beach Bar in the Royal Star Arcade. Never heard of the place,can anyone shed any light on it. You’ll need a pair of sunglasses for the bright yellow decor. Owned by the Thai restaurant next door. Skull Bar is much better. |

Indeed. Probably fine for people who want a meal and don’t normally do pubs. The bar area has straw looking roof resembling something you might see at a beach. Singha lager the only choice.

Living where I do, that end of Week St is normally my way into town. It used to be just the 'quiet' end of the street, with much lower footfall than the High St end. But, with the station just down the road and Brenchley Gardens just round the corner, it was still quite busy. Overall, it was a bit drab, but not an unpleasant area. And Brenchley was a pleasant oasis, where I would often spend a few hours with the paper or a book. But, no more. Today it is a shithole. The few decent shops have gone - replaced, almost exclusively, with cafés, takeaways, off-licences, etc. And Brenchley has had to be forcibly reclaimed from the drug dealers and other lowlife (only partially successfuly). But my view of the area was mostly based on daytime shopping trips and passing through on my way to catch a train. It was only returning from the Chesham game on Saturday, that I saw it in it's new night-time guise. It is not a pleasant experience - and that was only at 9pm... |
