Back in the day the Eagle had a very relaxed attitude to underage drinking, and being just up the road from my youth club, was a regular haunt for me in my teens. Haven't been there in over 40 years.

K Sports have two TV screens in their modern club house. Watched them lose 1-2 to Glebe in front of about 50 people, including a few away fans. Not sure there was enough to get hooked, but it’s an occasional alternative when Stones aren’t playing. View AttachmentStones were playing🤣🤣 Another alternative is Larkfield and New Hythe

If You were an eccentric multimillionaire looking to buy a local football club, would you spend £5,000,000 on Maidstone United who have fulfilled their potential for now, or the sprawling Cobdown complex with several profitable businesses on site? How to become a millionaire - start with 5 million, then 'invest' in a football club.

As expected the Dragoon has been bought by CKE Homes, the same company that bought the Dog and Gun. It would be nice to see the council refuse planning permission for demolition but I won't hold my breath☹

Lovely pub, although, sadly, it's more than 20 years since I was last in there. He's right about those toilets, they really are narrow - and get narrower! Not a place to negotiate a pee on a busy saturday night when you've had a pint more than you realised...

The Swan is now surrounded by scafolding, so that's another one definitely gone. It's been so long since it shut, with nothing happening, that I had a small glimmer of hope that SN might have changed their minds. Alas not.
Small glimmers of hope obviously not the thing this season...

Small glimmers of hope obviously not the thing this season... When Shepherd Shepherd Neame are shutting pubs that are still profitable because they are too small to be turned into gastro pubs then there us no hope of a reprieve for the Swan. The Globe in Hythe was twice the size of the Swan and a popular music venue but has been closed because it doesn't meet requirements of the future business model. The pub was popular snd profitable but the bosses of SN just said f**k 'em and closed it.🤬
