Excellent! Rocking Robin was a stupid name. Pubs and tradition go together. Hope they find someone to take it on. It should be a profitable pub, it's in a prominent position and nicely placed opposite the rec, and, with the demise of the Fountain, there's not any real competition in the immediate area. |

So do you expect them to carry on running a pub that, since Covid, is no longer viable? It's not breweries that are at fault for pubs closing, it's the changing demographic of the leisure industry. |

I would hope they would at least try to sell it as a going concern, before destroying another piece of our heritage. The Flower Pot down the road shows how small pubs can prosper. But that’s fine, they’re free to make that choice. I’m free not to drink their very average beer. There are better alternatives available from multiple venues in town. Exactly right with a couple of tower blocks if London refugees just over the road I am sure with a little invention it could be transformed into something to attract their custom. Why not turn it into a reggae shack with live music even I would make an effort to go in there for some rum and reggae. As for our clubhouse I've always said it would be better with us telling Sheps to piss off and get decent beer in there then I would use it on matchdays instead of the Old House at home. |

Almost anything in the Royal Star arcade fails - no footfall. No one knows where it is, I only go in there as a short cut, and even then haven't been there for months. |

Over the years Shepherd Neame have closed a lot of pubs on that side of town. Yet the Flower Pot, Brickmakers, Hare & Hounds, Eagle, Rifle Volunteers, Style & Winch and Duke of Marlborough are all able to trade profitably. If their business model is to close small pubs and develop large restaurant bars, good luck to them. I choose not to give them my money anymore. Who wants a rushed average beer standing in the freezing cold behind a stand, when you could be sat in a warm pub and turn up a few minutes before kick off? Not a Maidstone pub but Sheps have closed the Globe in Hythe one of my fave music venues.The pub was still profitable but couldn't be turned into a gastro pub which they now favour and so the butchers just chopped it anyway with no respect ti the customers. I hope someone buys it and resurrects it.🤬 |
