The assistant manager, whose name I forget, was one of the most beautiful women on Earth and died so young

It was The Sun when I used to work in Earl Street and took my lunch their back in the early 70s.

Back in the early 1980's the Sun was one of the best pubs in town with certainly the best jukebox but slowly went downhill with a succession of idiot landlords and regular trouble with fights and drugs until it was eventually sold to O'Neills. The current set up is OK and they have some decent live music on Sundays.

Wendy's burger joint is not much better! Floor needed cleaning and the little holes where you put your rubbish was over spilling!

Pubs with animals. The Robin Hood, near Bluebell Hill Village in the middle of nowhere. Think it was mainly birds and rabbits. Not sure if they still have them. The Fenn Bell Inn, out on the Grain peninsula. Full on proper zoo with miniature railway. Was great when kids were young. Really good quality. www.fbcukproject.co.uk/Edit. Looks like the railway closed, which is a shame. youtu.be/FHAfFC6L6KAWhat a shame. That wasn't a pub with a few animals and a bit of track, that was a proper miniture zoo - with railway! Must have cost a lot to set up - I wonder why it closed? Covid came along at just the wrong time, perhaps? Very sad.

Suprised it includes the Walnut Tree. That used to be my 'local' and it was run pretty well. 20+ years ago, though... Also surprised places that get a 1 in food hygiene aren't shut down - how bad does it have to be before they're not allowed to sell us food?!

Sad to hear that it's no longer run by the Henns - presumably that explains the decline...

Probably when they realised that it wasn't making any money. 40 years ago it was one of the best pubs in town, called the Sun then, and now it's virtually empty up until the weekend. I fully expect it to be a Starbucks next year or a similar coffee shop.
