The only time I look at Kent Online is when someone posts a link on here, and usually I just look at the article in question. But today I had a wander round the site - and I have to say it's utter crap! Possibly the worst site I've looked at in years - nothing but misleading headlines, nothing stories and clickbait by the ton. I'm afraid clickbait is the price you pay for free online local news. As for nothing stories, that is, and always has been, the problem with local news coverage. It's the same with Meridian and Newsroom Southeast. There just aren't enough proper stories to fill the paper/website. At least with the printed media and its associated websites you don't end up sitting through the one big story that was already covered in greater depth 20 minutes earlier on the national news. |

The Chequers is the only pub I've been to where I witnessed violence, in the 70s. We'd clearly upset this bloke earlier in the evening by hogging the bar billiards table in the Court Jester (I think it was called, it might have been the Motley something) in Loose Road, and later in The Chequers, they cornered Ron and me in the Gents. Luckily for me, the aggressive one decided to punch Ron in the face, while his mate held me back (not hard to do) and chirruped "Mind his glasses". We were half way to Maidstone Police Station when Ron decided that the Fuzz would do nothing, so we went home, seething with rage and embarrassment. But Ron's glasses were ok. Went in the Cricketers once, about 20 years ago and it felt stepping into a c--- tardis. |

I was jumped on by two blokes once as I was oing into the gents in the Albion, when it was a bikers' pub. One grabbed me and held my arms, whilst the other pulled his fist back to hit me in the face... Then a minor miracle occurred - the bloke who was holding me suddenly said "Hold on - wrong bloke!" and let go of me, brushing me down and apologising. But I really needed a pee, so, instead of doing the sensible thing and getting out of there, I carried on over to the the urinal. Then, after doing what I had to do (much to my surprise), I had to walk back between the two blokes to get out of the loo - possibly one of the most sureal moments of my life, as they both smiled and apologised again...

Saw someone headbutted in the Mu**leton once. It didn't seem out of the ordinary at the time.

Bar 6 is probably the nearest thing to a rough pub in Maidstone these days, if the wrong’uns are in. A bloke I know ended up with a black eye after a litte bit of agro in there! Saying that, i got head butted in the ferrymans back in 1995 |

I was banned from the White Horse London Road by the then Landlord Alan Pankhurst for nutting his nephew Melvyn not long after we had talked him into parting with £10,000 to sponsor the club back in the early days of reformation. The landlord actually laughed and thanked me before saying he had to ban me. Happy days🤣
Some things do not change though as I am banned from the Gatehouse in Tonbridge for smacking an arseole who thought it fun to mock my disabilities ,I told him that my legs were fucked not my fists and laid him out with a straight right and my shoulder still hurts 2 years later. I was banned and after he got up and wiped away the claret so was he 🤣🤣🤣

He probably hurt himself in the most part by being such a prick at the beginning of the pandemic and treating his staff like trash. I on principle, and not only for that reason, won't go near a spoons now. |
