Walked past The Pilot this morning & it's still closed. I lost track after it reopened recently - did it make it as far as the pandemic, or had it already run into problems again? Once my 'local', and certainly then* my favourite pub, so I would hate to see it close permanently. (*Superceded by the Flower Pot these days.)

No it was open pre Covid, went in a few times but opening times seemed to be whenever the landlord could be bothered.

Ah, relying on the passing trade. Well, it's one way to run a business!

The Druids Earl Strret is still closed, I have been told they will not open until the furlough runs out.

Burton had lots of breweries due to the water quality. Polluted water in Faversham would explain a lot. That's why the football club are known as the Brewers

I visited the Market House yesterday and Shepherd Neame have destroyed the place, its gone from being a decent English boozer to a soulless food outlet that serves shit food and overpriced shit beers. You used to be guaranteed a decent conversation but yesterday I recognized nobody at all, having said that with everyone social distancing any conversation would be difficult. I asked for the disabled toilet to be unlocked and I got the full Rolling eyeball and shoulder drooping sigh as if I'd asked her to shovel 10 tonnes of coal from a to b for no reason instead of walking 10 yards to put a key in the lock.I wont be going back there in any hurry.

It wasn't the water 'quality' that made Burton a good place for brewing - as HKS says, it was the sulphates in the water. Somewhat ironically, these days, an excess of something like sulphates in the water might very well be regarded as pollution!

A pub on every corner unless that corner has a brewery but now its 2 bedroom flats and Starbucks on the corners and very few breweries.

The Chequers is the only pub I've been to where I witnessed violence, in the 70s. We'd clearly upset this bloke earlier in the evening by hogging the bar billiards table in the Court Jester (I think it was called, it might have been the Motley something) in Loose Road, and later in The Chequers, they cornered Ron and me in the Gents. Luckily for me, the aggressive one decided to punch Ron in the face, while his mate held me back (not hard to do) and chirruped "Mind his glasses". We were half way to Maidstone Police Station when Ron decided that the Fuzz would do nothing, so we went home, seething with rage and embarrassment. But Ron's glasses were ok.

The only time I look at Kent Online is when someone posts a link on here, and usually I just look at the article in question. But today I had a wander round the site - and I have to say it's utter crap! Possibly the worst site I've looked at in years - nothing but misleading headlines, nothing stories and clickbait by the ton.
