With the threat of pubs being forced to shut because of Coronavirus,I wonder how many will actually re-open if the closures last more than one month. I am sure many pubs will close their front doors but a secret knock on the side door will gain you admittance at least until the beer runs out.

I found that review useful, it prompted me to risk life (if not limb) by venturing to The Smarden Bell, though I sat outside. Next will be The Horseshoes at East Farleigh (because you can sit outside). I'm still waiting to try out my new Mulberry face mask though.

First time up Lower Stone Street since February, and I was surprised to find the Thirsty Pig (or whatever it's called these days...) was still boarded up. Where are the hairy, unwashed yoof drinking if that's closed? Also the Fisherman's Arms still closed, but that wasn't exactly a surprise - social distancing in there would mean only two or three people in the pub! I hope they survive this virus, it's a nice little pub, and (I think) the oldest in town.
I didn't get as far as the Pilot, as I was carrying a ridiculous amount of shopping - has that reopened? From what little I could see from the crossroads, it didn't look like it has.

This maybe normality of the near future for the smaller pub.

I wonder what's happening with the Little Gem? Goachers were supposed to be reopening it, but I can't see that happening while social distancing is still a thing.
Talking of Goachers - has the Rifle Volunteers reopened?

Yep the rifle is back open, beer garden only but if there is no other bookings after yours then he is welcoming people to stay. They have worked very hard on it so get there if you can.

From what little I could see from the crossroads, it didn't look like it has. Am friends with Val (who runs The Fish), and she doesn't feel that they can safely reopen with the current social distancing requirements. I don't think, from what she has said on social media, that there's any need to panic about their immediate future, but if this situation continues long-term, then that might change (as it would with any business). Fingers crossed that the proper boozers survive this, and it's not just the drinking barns (Wetherspoons, that means you, among others) that do okay out of this.
