Not the Dog!?! I had my best pint ever there, a Master Brew that slipped down in ten seconds in one. Admittedly I haven’t been back since, and that was in the mid 70s.

Don't feel bad about it closing headstone, you did your bit to keep them going. You can't be blamed if they've squandered the profits from that pint already.

See that the current political thread (who is courting Covid) has been relegated. That being so, why is this thread still here as it is hardly MUFC either - especially as it promotes drinking away from the Gallagher. Another conspiracy no doubt.🤪😭🤢🤮🥴

If we ever get away fans, who knows how many pubs will be left for them to visit? Until Mr W Stone decides to bin it, this discussion remains a covid free zone until the football eventually returns. It is covid free until 10pm apparently

I don’t mind Shepherd Neame deciding local community pubs no longer fit into their gastro business model. But I do wish they would try and sell on to new free house owners willing to give them a go, rather than selling to property developers. Remember visiting there a few years ago now, fabulous location, imagine supping ale while looking out over a sweeping view of the weald. Is a bit small, but as you say, in the right dynamic hands, who knows what might be achieved ?

That would require an element of altruism and respect for the community, when did you last see a big brewer demonstrate those qualities?

My local! Just down the road and round the corner. But never been in there - mostly because it was a very gay pub until recently (judging from the stuff advertised outside!) Interesting to watch its transition - first to a non-gay pub, but which still welcomed gays (according to the adverts of the time), then a name change and a 'gastro' pub (whatever that is), now just a local pub. Could do well, as there's very little competition in the area these days, but I must admit, if I've walked that far, I'm more likey to do another five minutes and have a decent pint in the Rifleman. Pity it's no longer a gay pub, though, it was just about the only interesting thing about this side of town...

When I visited a few years back I was sort of acting as an unofficial tour guide with some overseas guests. The welcome we received in the Clothworkers from the transplanted residents of Captain's Close ( if you know Sutton Valance ) was not warm - sort of like the piano stopped playing in your favourite Western, so a new tenant really would be starting from scratch.
