If i were a Gateshead fan i would be more worried as to why the council will not give the club a ten year lease instead of worrying about playoffs they were unlikely to win anyway.

Now Altrincham will go straight into the play off semi final. Got to the correct decision but absolutely embarrassing it wasn’t the immediate decision.
The national league board is inept, water is wet

Altrincham finished where they finished and Gateshead being thrown out of the playoffs changes nothing.

The only just (and sensible) decision - apart from not kicking out a side who can't absolutely guarantee their ground lease for TEN years - is to promote the 8th placed team into the playoffs.
If the NL organised a piss-up in a brewery, there would be no beer.

They didn’t make the playoffs on merit so why should they get in through someone else’s misfortune.

Don’t care either way, but that happens every year in non league. Usually to do with ground grading or insolvency.

If someone drops out or isn't suitable, that goes down to 8th place. Why should someone get a bye when they have done nothing to deserve it?

If the rules say 8th place takes unexpected spaces lost by those who don’t meet the criteria, then they have completely deserved it.
Especially if they finished lower down because they spent resources on the ground rather than player wages.

Why should someone get a place when they’ve done nothing to deserve it? They got 8th place, and if that becomes a play-off place - ipso facto - they deserve it.

Usual inconsistent approach from the authorities
No more than a couple of seasons ago, North Leigh finished 1 place outside of the Southern League D1 Central playoffs, whereupon the manager ‘resigned’
Suddenly and unexpectedly they then found themselves IN the playoffs, The manager was reappointed and NL went on to win the playoffs and got promoted
And all because a club (Welwyn GC?) that did finish in a playoff place failed to meet ground grading requirements and were denied the opportunity to compete
Inconsistent!

Why should someone get a place when they’ve done nothing to deserve it? They have deserved it, they were the 7th highest finishing team, eligible to gain promotion to the football league. They full deserved it.

They full deserved it. My point was in response to JDL’s assertion that Altrincham didn’t deserve a bye. My view is that they are a least as deserving, if not more so, of a bye as Aldershot are of a playoff place. You could argue for and against either case with equal validity.
