I think 'just go with the flow' Only the owners can influence the way forward, so rather than mapping out your wishes or preferences, you should just enjoy the ride. Supporters are like passengers on a train, we are there for the journey, nothing more, nothing less. Can't make money running a train without passengers, though.
It is possible as the government pays the private operators to do so. 20 years ago Stagecoach were being paid £60m a year to operate SW trains. I am sure the numbers will be far greater these days. It is a reverse tendering process which becomes a dutch auction between potential operators to see who will do it for least. Now you understand why rail privatisation is so f%*ked up. Shout out to all the Stones fans who had their train back from the Altrincham game cancelled at the beginning of this season.

Same all over the place. Seem to remember local councils do the same with bin collections and waste management.

Missed this when it was posted, but this is pretty spot on for me. I couldn't really give a toss about the EFL (although, if it happens one day, I won't be complaining...), but I've had enough of NS and below. So survival this season is crucial for me. Previously, people have argued that there's no point in being in a league/division you're not trying to win, but I think the NL is so difficult to win for a club of our resources, that that really is no problem. As you say, if clubs like Maidenhead and Bromley can survive in the NL and enjoy their football, I don't see why we can't. Not so sure about combining the NL and L2 into a regionalised L2, though. Clubs tend to want to be in national leagues, not regional ones - despite the drawbacks like travel distance. I feel that the NL becoming the EFL's L3 is more likely. After all this is, in everything but name, the reality already. How can you have enough of something if you were hardly ever there. Bizarre. I'm fairly used to your strange pot shots at me, but this one has me baffled. We've been in NS or below for 7 out of our 10 years back in town. How is that "hardly ever there"?

I am talking about you.
Not the team.

You are correct however the private rail operators get to keep the ticket money. Not the same opportunities for refuse collection.
However, having had the train connection from Alty cancelled we can now see how bad Avanti are in particular - but this travesty is still allowed to continue.

That £40 million must include other facilities besides a very average stadium. The planned “neighbourhood” looks unbelievably grim. Truly the slums of the future. Does anywhere else in Kent have similar housing density? How on earth will the roads cope? Then the theme park on top.

That is indeed a shitload of housing in a very small footprint.

I am talking about you. Not the team. You'll have to explain that. I'm at every home game I can physically get to. How am I not there?

Travelled by train a lot over the summer, looking at unis with my daughter, and my experience was that the system is pretty close to collapse. We had trains delayed, connections missed, trains cancelled (and we weren't allowed to use our tickets on the next train because it was run by a different company!), and a train failure on the West Coast line that meant a diversion via Manchester (which we had to work out ourselves), and arriving home three hours late. And those few trains that actually ran, didn't break down and arrived on time were not exactly impressive - unless you really enjoy the discomforts of airline travel. Very cramped, uncomfortable seats, and - bizarrely - not lined up with the windows, so we couldn't see out. I used to enjoy train travel and was looking forward to the excuse to do a lot of it, but the reality ranged from uncomfortable and late to nightmare. The only bit of our journeys we really enjoyed was the trip from Edinburgh to St Andrews - which is, of course, Scott Rail - which just happens to be the only nationalised bit of BR... On the positive side, we got most of our fares refunded (although only after a lot of faff and delay). But what a way to run a railway!

Had booked rail tickets for our summer holiday. Changed the return date by one day because of strikes. Then a strike was called for the outward date for which we were refunded, so we changed the return date back to a strike day and got a refund for that as well. Drove a very long distance instead.

Scunthorpe United get their takeover. Perhaps they'll pay their players now.
