Dover Athletic to accept demotion to NLS Steve Dale to claim Bury FC advanced to the National League NL, NLN & NLS to run with 22 clubs each in 21/22 (allows for a later start in NL after play-offs in June '21) NL, NLN & NLS to run with 24 clubs each in 22/23 (as had been planned from 20/21) meaning Step1/Step2 2 down / 4 up Step2/Step3 2 down / 8 up And other then Bury's ex Football League credential why should they leep frog clubs in NLN & S. On that basis Chester Hereford & York should be before them

Despite swordy's cheery Carnage threads, I don't think a single club above about Heckmondthistle Wheeltappers and Shunters Reserves has actually totally gone bust due to COVID? (Not counting Bury and Macclesfield, which were for other reasons) Pubs and shops on the other hand... one of the best pubs in Oxford has shut (blame the university), and where am I supposed to buy clothes now Top Man has gone?

On that basis Chester Hereford & York should be before them I see the ambiguity over my use of "to claim" I meant 'profess, pretend' not 'attain, secure' i.e. fantasy not actuality The Bury FC Co Ltd (the expelled club not the phoenix club Bury AFC) has not been liquidated but is still extant & in administration (to which its ongoing chairman/owner Steve Dale is not being co-operative)
The company still owns the Gigg Lane ground (which Bury Council are trying to bring under community ownership through a UK Treasury scheme) & the company continues to maintain that Bury FC will gain a place in NL or NPL (despite the debt & Dale being declared by the FA 'not a fit & proper person' etc) The club 22 vacancy in NLS is as a result of the non-admission of Bury FC into the NL for season 19/20 & its relegation to Step 2 when 4x Step 2 clubs were promoted last season with 3 relegated (2 to NLN & Ebbsfleet + vacancy to NLS) whilst no promotion from Step 3.

Oh no!Heckmondthistle Wheeltappers and Shunters reserves have gone under? On behalf of the committee can I say what a sad day this is and makes 32 clubs that have gone to the wall forum steps 5-7.

Who are the other 31 and how many were being run by PBB?

Who are the other 31 and how many were being run by PBB? I did have a list but my office(bedroom) is like the Bermuda Triangle things just disappear without a trace. The number of clubs folding is surprisingly small but would have grown exponentially had the government not given a small amount of money to each club at steps 3-7. I do not think the death toll is yet over.

Yeah some clubs might get a few games into next season and realise there's no money left. I'd be amazed if both Abingdon clubs, or a team like Wantage, survive in my n of the w.

Hijacking the old 'just as many people die from flu'* approach - I imagine that a certain number of clubs in the nether regions go out of business each year, even without Covid. Has this season been significantly worse?
(*they don't)

Has this season been significantly worse? (*they don't) I would say on average 4 to 6 clubs fold per season so approximately 500% increase. There are also far more clubs than usual asking for voluntary relegation therefore major changes will take place at lower steps before next season. News reaching Swordy towers is if Barrow are relegated after one season the parachute payment maybe not enough to pay current contracts. This begs the question how are they surviving now? Answers on the back of a cheque for £2,000,000 please.

If Barrow have over stretched themselves, they won't be the first, or last. Indeed, given where they've been, you'd think they'd know better. See that Sutton are level on points at the top of the NL, with two games in hand. Are they actually going to go for it this year? Meanwhile, with half of the NL now made up of ex FL clubs, it's no wonder Oliver Ash is promoting the idea of it becoming League Three.

Are the financial gains of being in EFL2 compared to NL worth the risk. Do you get much better crowds as a successful nonleague club as you would being a struggling EFL club and is ripping up the pitch worth it for what may only be a year in the sun Promotions come relegations come. Is promotion what Sutton want can they survive it

I can only see Rhyl having actually gone bust - a google search brings up countless predictions of doom (didn't realise Sennockian, JDL and swordy were journalists) but no actual casualties. In other news - look out for a total lack of a spike in COVID cases after Rangers fans' celebrations yesterday; and our old pal Glenn Tamplin has abandoned Romford FC.
