Game of two half's as they say.
First half, sluggish, second half much better against a decent Police team.
Thought Jay May did really well today, lots of clever lay offs and flicks and an expertly taken goal. Charley R looks a special talent coming on as players around are tiring.
There are things to moan about - creativity in centre midfield being the main one - but a win is a win.

A good solid start, good first 20 minutes then they got a bit lucky with their goal and our heads dropped a bit. Obviously a better second half with 3 good goals that all needed some work to be finished as well as they were.
Back line looking more solid than last year and I'm glad Alex Brown started with JP. Both strikers getting a goal is great and will hopefully start them on their way to 40 or so between them this year.
Downside for me was the reaction to going a goal behind from people. Sitting in the stand you'd have thought the whole season was over when they scored. Particularly couldn't believe the bloke who yelled sarcastically 'yet another bright start to the season stones' after they scored. How unhelpful to the team can you be. Funny, he wasn't saying anything when we went 3-1 up! Sometimes I think people prefer us to lose!
It's a long season and a win at home is the best start, hopefully a few more are encouraged to come down by the result as 1500-1600 is a couple of hundred down on the recent norm.

That was one among many heckles. For me being a supporter involves not shooting down the team on the first day after 30 minutes. As it turned out those who did looked very silly.

First game of the new season, and a win to get us going in our surge for a long season ahead. I was probably like the majority of the crowd, slightly disappointed to go in 0-1 down at half time ... I put it down to a friend that has made a habit of turning up at our home games every so often and jinxing our results !!!... On a more serious note, we came out in the second half and once we had broken down their resilience, there was only going to be one outcome ... a much appreciated home win ... after last season draws it was nice to see us "finish off" that type of opposition. I felt it was a pity that the attendance was fairly low ... I believe that there was much more spectators around the ground that was announced !!! ... but looking at the other fixtures and in particular margate ... money seems to grow on tree for them this year , but their fans still fancied a donkey ride on the beach than turning up in numbers to support them !!. It was a shame than the club announcer didn't introduce Nicky Southall to the crowd and give him the "home welcome" he deserved ... Enough of side stepping issues and a bit of time anylizing the whole team performance ... Lee Worgan and his defence did well, especially towards the end of the first half after the Met Police had taken the lead , slightly unfortunately, as it was a rebound from their centre forward. The midfield felt a bit crowded and at time were running out of ideas, but improved in the second half once they took the game by the "scuff of the neck" Our front two players were a bit out of sorts, but Frannie scored an excellent goal from a free-kick, like he used to early on last season ... Jay May, is a big enough "lump" ... who somehow scored a goal that will probably be the slowest goal to cross the line this season ... The man lack pace and maybe I'll get some criticisism for saying that ... but reminded me of Stuart King for his demeanour on the pitch and Jerome Sobers for his gangly footwork with the ball !!. The subs used did offer a bit of respite to the tired legs of the players taken off. I was pleased to see a bit of shouting coming from the bench ... Well done Nicky and he can be much more than just the assistant manager to Jay by his vocal support to the lads on the pitch !! ... A win to start our season ... C'mon you Stones !!! ... Did anyone apart my mate ... missed the Stonettes at Half-time ?!?!

At half time I was a little worried not with our defence as it is clearly miles better then last season Miles and Butcher fitted in there nicely . But the fact we couldn't create anything dispite having so much of the ball was a concern we gave the ball away far to easily. But Second half we learnt how to use the strengths of Jay may boy can he hold that ball up suddenly all the play was around there box and as a result the Met totally lost there shape.Frannie is going to love playing along side Jay as I can see him scoring so many more goals. My motm Jay May so strong on the ball.

A bit of a sluggish first half but no doubt we deserved to win that game with 3 well taken goals. That's the sort of game we were drawing last season so very nice to get an opening day win for a change. I think young Charlie is an excellent prospect, like to see him sitting behind the front 2 and creating chances. Slightly disappointing attendance but I'm sure a lot of supporters on holiday at the moment and still way and above the highest in the league.

Always great to start with a win, with the bonus of it being at home (though attendance a little poor, it may be partly due to still being the holiday season). Very important to come back from the goal against with a strong second half performance

Yet another mention of Margate, sorry been reading this forum and i am bemused at the infatuation and snipes! Our attendance was a big improvement on last season and will only get better. Good result for you guys, will make for an interesting battle for promotion.

Great second half, thought Charlie showed maturity beyond his years, the way he calmly took his goal. Ironically there were more police at our first home game last season than this one

It was the same last year. I even clicked the link to let them know if there was an error and put correct venue.

Great result today sluggish 1st half then I think jays tactics won the 2nd half push for a quick start and then set up to counter attack them as the tried to draw level and worked a treat,I thought May and Brown were poor 1st half exceptional 2nd but MOM for me was Sonny Miles rock solid and a fighting attitude I like this lads swagger
